We used to execute a lot more people in this country, and it didn't reduce the murder rate. It wasn't until we used other means that the murder rate began falling. Our experience is also the experience of other Western industrialized democracies like us, as well.

So, then, treason, sedition, barratry, & mutiny aren't actually crimes? The violent overthrow of the government has been illegal virtually since we enacted the Constitution. Historical precedent demonstrates that violent overthrow was not the intent of the Founders, since they made no objection to criminalizing acts of violent overthrow. In fact, the Constitution itself defines the crime of treason.

It appears to come from the articles linked in the post we're all commenting on, specifically, the case of Alphonse Maddin, a trucker who got stuck on the road in sub-zero temperatures and abandoned his cargo to seek help. Because he left his truck, his employer fired him. Maddin sued and seven judges ruled in his favor. Only one — Judge Gorsuch — sided with the company.

Sanctuary cities do not ignore the law. Federal immigration law is administrative, not criminal. So-called sanctuary cities uphold the law, requiring Federal officials to actually have a court order for the detention of an individual, and to actually do their own work instead of forcing police officers to do it for them.

Good people can and do disagree about what is for "the good of the country." Just because someone doesn't see it your way, that doesn't make them asinine or opposed to the nation's interest. There's a difference between being wrong and being evil. In other words, we all think we're right; that doesn't make any of us special because we believe we're right.
