That might be the reason for the omissions. The @statesman has 32,434 followers...

I'm not sure I get the logic of keeping track of papers' Twitter accounts using print circulation.

Re: Google’s Answer to the Facebook “Like” Button: The “+1”

If they can set it up where you only see your Google friends' +1s, then that would solve the problem. The publishers' plug-in option should help. That way, when you're on a page you truly like, you +1 it and others see it when they search.

Re: The ‘gamification’ of news, and how it can be relevant

Thanks, Aaron. I hear some people saying they didn't get as much out of SXSW this year (something I hear every year). I personally got quite a bit out of it. I, too, am sorry I missed your panel.

There's plenty of room for innovation in reporting and sharing news, and we're just starting out.

Re: Journalists and SXSW: Why they should go, and what to do there

No, I do say that it's still worth it, despite the difficulties, and it's also aimed at telling people they should plan early and come next year. One of the things I struggle with is knowing exactly how much traffic I'm driving from Twitter. Bit.ly captures well - but only if people use bit.ly to share our content. A comprehensive measuring of that would be more interesting to me than which tweets caused unfollows, etc.

Re: The Beatles Finally Headed to iTunes [REPORT]

Haha, I'm clearly older than most people commenting here. YouTube videos play fine on an iPhone and an iPad - in mp4 format, which is created when a user uploads a video to YouTube. Since YouTube, the most popular video service, can play on YouTube, not sure how Apple no-flash "marching orders" affect anything.

Re: “Wherever You Go, There You Are.”

Congrats!
Best of luck at RWW, a publication I highly respect as well. Convenience only goes so far. I use Gowalla for the in-line commenting (which makes it a more social app than Foursquare, imo) and photos. And, yes, I want to see what my friends are up to. I think a lot of people are using more than one service because they're still test-driving them to see which one they'll ultimately choose, not because they want to be checking in just for the sake of checking in. The real potential with these apps are not the games nor the mundane checking in, but the social aspects.

Re: FourSquare vs. Gowalla at SXSWi 2010: We Have a Winner!

You make good points, but I still think the commenting and photos wins out (for now). I personally like Gowalla, mainly for the in-line commenting on spots and photos (both part of the latest upgrade). Being able to instantly find nearby friends/parties etc. is great when you're at SXSW, but not as important for every-day use. I use Gowalla to socialize/discover new places. It's great for that, and I think that has a bigger long-term benefit.

Re: New Tricks: Live tweeting from the courthouse

Stephanie,
Thanks! I had Buzz linked to the @Statesman Twitter account but have since unhooked it. It does not seem to be a good use of Buzz to have Tweets flow in there (besides, the lag between Twitter and Buzz is horrible). For now, I recommend just buzzing one or two interesting things a day. The good thing about having Buzz hooked to your e-mail is you see when someone comments on your post so you can go in and reply. If Buzz catches on big time, you can devote more resources to it. For now, I just recommend dabbling in it and experimenting a bit.

Re: New Tricks: How to use Google Buzz for journalism

Tara - thanks.
Be aware that Google is addressing those concerns: http://news.cnet.com/8301-3...

My advice on all social networks is to be aware of how the privacy settings work.

Re: New tricks: Journalists and SEO – searching for the right balance

Monica -

Writing a headline is more than a science - there is some art to it. I think the trick is to write a good SEO-friendly headline and still have it full of intrigue. Although the Statesman mentioned all you need to know in the headline about Cactus Cafe, it still got plenty of clicks. I think on a good story, people will still click through, even if the headline reveals the news.

I don't think we'd hold back for the sake of getting a click. However, I do think we should be trying to lure the reader in with a catchy, yet still informative headline. At least that should be our goal.

Thanks for reading, and for the comment.

Re: New tricks: Know your audience – whether you’re on Twitter or in print

Thanks Vicky
Glad it's a help.
