The Automation API is without a doubt one of the biggest advancements in the Workload Automation arena in a long time and is what is helping drive innovations such as the ability to deal with microservices, containers, etc. I tell everyone who will listen that now is the time to be learning about containers because it is the coming wave in IT. Containerization is going to help not only with cost control and reduction by helping us use only what we need, when we need it - but also going to help drive a major evolution in uptime, availability, etc. of services and platforms.

Just moved two of our monthly Amazon purchases over to Wal-Mart. We purchase a large number of office supplies, and with the new Pickup Discount from Wal-Mart, it's a no-brainer. We are getting a discount, it's avialable for pickup literally just a 1/2 mile down the road, and we don't have to pay for Prime anymore. A win-win-win for us, and no more delayed packages from Amazon, or worse yet beat up packages that we have to play the replacement game with.

Also, Amazon was taking FOREVER to deliver, especially non-Prime orders. "Free shipping" with them meant waiting a week or more. Wal-Mart consistently now is delivering to the neighborhood store in 3 days.

Great article. You are so right that so many of the tools organizations need are sitting right there in their workload automation platform. I think the biggest challenge we face is to get folks to break the "batch scheduler" or just "scheduling" mindset and think of it as an IT workflow/workload automation tool. If people think its "just batch" they see it as old, boring and non-relevant to what they are working on.

Under the Federal WARN act 60 day notice is required. They are FORCED to pay them since they didn't give 60 days notice. So Wal-Mart isn't doing anything they aren't being forced to do because of labor laws.

I bought a SP3 in August and never looked back. Gone from my he office is my Dell laptop. I found with the docking station it really was powerful enough and functional enough to replace my desktop. What happened after that though was quite unexpected. I got rid of my NAS devices. I got so used to Onedrive that the idea of having my own NAS was pointless. The cost per gigabyte was so much cheaper, plus I could access from anywhere. Throw in redundancy in the cloud and I was sold.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The Post Office around here delivers for FedEx because, hey guess what, FedEx doesn't deliver to every part of the country! Most of my Amazon purchases come via the Post Office.
It amazes me people take their own little slice of the world and think it must be that way everywhere!

Just picked mine up yesterday at AT&T. My Windows 7 phone died, and sadly the apps for Windows Phone just aren't mainstream -- so I decided that it was time to breakup with Microsoft. I am loving this phone -- it's so fast and so much fun to use. It's nice to be able to find all the popular apps in the marketplace!
