The CIA, NSA, and the 14 other agencies comprimising the U.S. Intelligence Community hire, contract, and even take on volunteers to perform thousands of duties, such as being a guest speaker in an intel class, etc. Please visit the DECLASSIFIED SECRETS-2 site and take the POLLS. I'm curious as to what readers of this forum think regarding the IC. We learned much about the UAV Predator and Reaper, both types being flown and tested there. It is unfortunate that civilians in Pakistan die when al Queda members purposefully meet amongst the innocent, but these UAV's serve another unmatchable service of providing overhead surveillance for American troops on the ground. As a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), I write on my DECLASSIFIED SECRETS site that most intelligence failures are policy failures by some of our policy makers. Cherry-picking during the "W" era simply meant the administration ignored the intelligence collection, analysis and subsequent recommendations. It's one thing for our White House policy makers to simply read NIE's and daily briefs, then ignore them...not against the law. It's another to send Cheney over to make dozens of unprecedented visits to the CIA HQ in Langley and threaten lower and middle-level managers, thus debauching heretofore accurate intelligence estimates, making them perverted and warped into what the White House needed to support its invasion of Iraq..against the law.

The Iraq invasion was not an intelligence failure, it was a policy failure...and young men and women continue to die years after. Visit my DECLASSIFIED SECRETS site and I'd enjoy hearing your opinions.
www.declassifiedsecrets.blo...

Re: Consensus, Not Oversight

Very enjoyable site, The Moderate Voice is. I ran across it on my DECLASSIFIED SECRETS site where I have daily updated newspaper and journal pieces about the CIA in general, black ops, etc. As a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), I will bookmark this site. When a fairly reasonable person like President Obama gets into verbal harangs with the likes of Rush, onlookers can't tell which one is the true moron; they think both are moronic idiots. So, President Obama should stay out of it and keep a steady facial expression in such events. By the way, I have a POLL on my DECLASSIFIED SECRETS site that measures one's perception of the chances for success of President Obama's trilateral strategy in Afghanistan. I'd appreciate it if readers could take it; I will publish the results here. Thanks in advance. As a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), I was privy to hearing Michael Shuerer, former head of the CIA's bin Laden unit, say that it is "mathematically impossible" for us to win the war in Afghanistan.

President Obama's strategy in Afghanistan seems to be a well-thought out one. An in-depth article. I feel our efforts in Afghanistan are useless. Yes, it sounds dire, but as a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), I was privy to hearing Michael Shuerer, former head of the CIA's bin Laden unit, say that it is "mathematically impossible" for us to win the war in Afghanistan.
