I'm probably misreading this, but I think it's at least slightly complimentary... so thanks! And while I don't do the Upside/Downside anymore my final paragraph is always a very brief summation as to the film's value.

Agree pretty much across the board here, but regarding the "small hints" that it's set in the '90s, the film opens with onscreen text placing it in 1995.

Hi Gram... *Spoilers for everyone but Gram!* I'm referring to the "imagined" scenario bit where something happens and then it's revealed to be her just imagining an outcome. It's odd and hurt the momentum for me, especially as it's the only instance of it happening. It's not like we're shown her running through multiple ones. Just felt cheap. Thankfully it's brief.

It's definitely suggested that Patton's character is gay and in love with Hackman's, but I've never gotten the impression his actions were simply written for that (or any) reason. Hackman's character has a derogatory attitude towards him, but the film doesn't IMO.

The '80s were a simpler time... I'm assuming because it was non-sexual nudity, ie no guys in the shot, just two topless women chilling in a pond, that it was deemed okay with parental guidance.

Hi. Leaving aside the point that reviews are, by definition, opinion pieces, I'll add that I always try to provide minimal plot recaps when possible. The 3rd paragraph covers all someone needs to know story-wise -- not only is the movie very one-note in its plot, but I'm of the belief that most things about a movie should be discovered while watching the movie.

To address your main concern though, no, TJ Miller's character is not of much importance.
