Higher performance. You can always have options to scale back performance for longer battery life, but whatever your max performance, it's the max performance.

You are absolutely right. If Apple doesn't start bringing out impressive phones, they're gonna really be in a pickle if they are forced to open up their walled garden ecosystem and make it perform equally well on Android devices.

You said you don't like SD cards for the reason that they're fine until they get corrupted. It's highly unlikely you were experiencing SD card corruption unless you were misusing them, buying cheap brands, or buying knockoffs of good brands.

All smartphones are sold unlocked in Canada too, by federal regulation, but carriers are allowed to have you sign a term contract to help finance the device.

Yes and no. In Canada a carrier *could* offer a 3 year contract, but you would have the right to walk away from the contract after 2 years.
Pretty sure they could add financing separately from the service contract if they wanted to as well allowing them to let you finance for longer, but I'm not 100% on that.

Affordability. Personally, I'd prefer the Exynos version (Exynos usually gets a root method, Snapdragon not so much), but I can't afford to buy the phone without carrier subsidies, so, I have no choice but to buy the Snapdragon version.

The US has a similar landmass and rates there are far lower than here. Also major carriers have different rates depending on your province or territory, so they can charge more in places where it's more costly to operate their network.
