He's responsible for "The Online Gamer's Anthology" podcast on Virginworlds. He did a couple of podcasts on Dark Age of Camelot which were very well done...I should probably do another blog post about them with the WAR release headed our way. I think it was the second DAoC episode...shoot, let me look it up...Ok, it was episode 13, and he interviews a DAoC player (Sean)who happened to play on the same server as me.

Part of the interview covers open dungeons, and I remember nodding my head in agreement at what Sean was saying. Yeah, you're absolutely right about the problems than can occur in open dungeons; I'm not going to argue with you about that. But! (Yeah, there's a but :) )

Sean said that one of the things he enjoyed about open dungeons in DAoC was how you got to know people in the community. Our DAoC server (Percival) may have been unique in the sense that it was an awesome gamer community. Hibernia, at least, was mature, unselfish, funny, and just a blast to log in to every night. The open dungeon environment was enjoyable because you talked to a lot of people as you worked your way into groups, waited for certain areas to open up, solved problems together...there was a lot of community give-and-take as we all tried to get what we wanted from the dungeon, and in hindsight, I found the positives to equal out the negatives.

That was a long time ago in the gaming universe, and it's possible the population has changed for the worse. We might see terrible behavior, selfishness, and I might end up disliking open dungeons. I will say, though, that Mythic's open dungeons provided some very memorable game experience, and social experiences, that I didn't experience in WoW. WoW had great dungeon crawls, but it was sorely lacking in the community building-aspect.

Shoot, probably should have made this a blog post of my own, it's long, but I'm in a hurry tonight. Hope you don't mind the long post...I might come back to it tomorrow if I have time, and break it out on my own blog.

Whatever our opinions, it'll be interesting to see what happens in WAR. I hope for the best, I'll prepare for the worst :)
