Maybe he should reveal his real name and place of residence.

Re: Gregoire proposes regional ferry district to manage system - Islands' Sounder

It is not clear how the numbers would work out. Bellingham is left out but derives much of its business from San Juan county. Much of King county is also left out but the city of Seattle is included. Is Seattle so much a part of the other side of Puget sound economy but the rest of King county not? Does San Juan really need roads to Eastern Washington at any time but especially in Winter? Once you start down this road (no pun intended) there is no logical stopping point. Get back the MVET and get back an overall health for the State's transportation.

Re: San Juan Islands Ferry Group circulates petition about ferry system - Islands' Sounder

If we want services we have to pay taxes. It would help to restore the property tax on vehicles so we COULD maintain and improve transportation in the state.

Re: Governor’s budget calls for cuts in ferry service - Islands' Sounder

Left out of this story:
"Washington State Ferries lost 20 percent of its operating support and 75 percent of its dedicated capital funding when voters approved Initiative 695 in 1999. Since then, the deficit has been subsidized with short-term transfers from non-ferry transportation sources. This approach is not sustainable."
Let us all thank Tim Eyman.

Re: Governor’s budget calls for cuts in ferry service - Islands' Sounder

Washington State Ferries lost 20 percent of its operating support and 75 percent of its dedicated capital funding when voters approved Initiative 695 in 1999. Thank Tim Eyman's supporters for this situation.

Re: Send us your heatwave photos! - Islands' Sounder

Someone took that photo so we expect you to credit them for it.
Rick

Re: Guard rails definitely needed - Islands' Sounder

My comments are on topic and have brought your opinion into clear focus.

Pill bottle tops, deer, taverns????

We are talking about a very real concrete issue, guard rails at a few very dangerous curves.

If you find that having your overing riding abstract views on government made clear vs. unnecessary deaths ( and the liability the County would face) insulting, so be it.

Re: Guard rails definitely needed - Islands' Sounder

I did not know Nate or the the others that died at Cascade Lake. But someone else's loss is all our loss.

I did not miss your point, your personal distaste for the appearance of guard rails is more important to you then the lives of others.

Re: Guard rails definitely needed - Islands' Sounder

Were you there? It takes a lot of nerve to assert Nate Tyler died because of a lack of personal responsibility. Many times I have been on that curve when a car or worse yet large truck comes around at high speed over the middle forcing me close to the cliff edge (There is no painted yellow line marking the middle on Channel Road). What about the multiple fatalities at Cascade Lake? Were these all irresponsible people, and if so did they deserve to die?

I'm sorry you have trouble opening your arthritis pill bottle, but an easy to open top would be supplied if you asked.

Re: Guard rails definitely needed - Islands' Sounder

At this one curve near Cayou Quay on Channel Road two cars have gone off within months.
Nate Tyler has died. The comment that thousands of others have passed that curve on the cliff without an accident is true but how many more victims we will need before doing the obvious small step to improve safety. The comment that a guard rail at that dangerous spot would make Channel road appear like Interstate 5 does not make sense and seems selfish to me. I would not be surprised if the persons who think that way would not hesitate to sue for millions if one of theirs went off the road there after these warning events.
