They often want (and need) access to my financial accounts. How do we know they will not abuse this access to this kind of information? And what if company A is honest but they go out of business (a high percentage of new companies do) ... or maybe that they are so successful that they get gobbled up by company B which is not so honest. And, not only might American companies be dishonest but how do we know that either company A or B is owned by someone outside the US who is antagonistic towards Americans? Seems like a LOT of risk and an unwise amount of faith in these small upstart companies. Am I (hopefully) missing something?

Re: Angel Island: History Repeats Itself

Thanks for this perspective and admonition! A very tough situation indeed - particularly for those caught in the middle. What would have been even more helpful would be a link - or further commentary - with suggestions for remedies to this difficult situation. Your piece seems to advocate that we have no immigration policy; if so, that would seem wildly chaotic and not feasable. What is it that the church can do to truly help?

Re: Swine Flu Perspective

I quite agree ... oh ah ... with myself and Kyle it seems. I just noticed that I already commented ... though as Dad A (instead of this phony name Rick111). This is all Kyle's fault for adding this Disqus silliness. Everyone knows that that (Disqus) is an Olympic sport involving hurtling an iron frisbee over the top of the nearest skyscraper (with serious point deductions for broken windows ... or deaths. But I digress.) Kyle is a seriously angry man because he too is about to turn old (30) and lose his hair and brains like his dear dad. Undoubtedly now that I have signed up with this Communist front group (Disqus) I shall have to let my hair grow long again, buy a Beetle van and go on the Grateful Dead circuit with my old lady.
