I have questioned them to find out what they think about John and Sarah. So far, no one is really impressed with either one of the two. Which is not surprising since they were not excited about McCain from the jump.

I heard from my mom that there has been a standing joke on The View all week about the one black man who kept showing up in the media during the convention. I did spot a couple of black people in the masses. As Peggy Noonan noted during her hot mic remarks: Palin's addition to the GOP ticket is BS!

I hope that people realize that this is not Wonder Woman. Bein a woman politican is not a shield from the truth about her politics and intentions. I didn't hear substance in her remarks. What I heard was a well rehearshed speech that had some shallow barbs. Where's the substance? I heard nothing about the issues of concern to women like childcare, equal pay, education etc...

She is just a skirt for McCain to hide behind. As I see it, his folks figure she will keep things easier on his behind. But she has declared herself to be a yard dog with lipstick. As my mother would say, either she'll be up for the fight in the yard or she'll realize that she needs to get a seat on the porch.

Re: What If Sarah Palin Were Black….

If Michelle Obama had the same back ground story as Palin, we'd see the loop over and over again. But this election is turning out to be about which America will run the nation.

If either of the Obama girls were pregnant and unmarried, we'd have to take a can of WA and head to the streets to defend them. There is no doubt in my mind that the fall out about either one of them being a baby's mama would be very U-G-L-Y! But in this case, Bristol's decision to keep the baby is being lauded.

I want to know about the sucession deal in Palin's story. Pulling out of the Union does not sound like country first to me. But, I am not a great American Patriot either. But, isn't that the initial reason for The Civil War? The attempt to split the union is a serious anti-American motive, IMHO.

Re: For black Republicans, race complicates the campaign

The GOP has failed to connect with the African American voting population. That was obvious during their national convention.

McCain is not in touch with contemporary America. He has not done anything to make me feel that he is reaching out to win the AA vote.

The GOP has been in national office since the beginning of this decade. We only need to look at the state of the nation as a consideration point in this election.

I was never pro-war. It has not improved our lives nor has it been as effective as the GOP wants the public to believe. There is evidence that corruption is happening on the American tax payers money in Iraq. What constitutes victory? That has never been totally clear from the Bush Administration's end.

Our national economy is in a state of chaos. And listening to McCain declare that it is as strong as ever only indicates that he really told the truth about his lack of knowledge regarding economics. Bush hasn't said anything that makes me feel like he has a grip on what is happening either.

The GOP does not reflect America of this century. We are not just a nation of black and white people. Even if Obama wasn't the DP nominee, there is no way in the world that I would be in support of McCain and Palin taking over the national leadership.

It will be interesting to see what is going to happen within the GOP after this election. Either they will get in step with the national reality or continue to isolate itself from the nation.

Re: The House Negro

I had to think about how to approach my response on this subject.

I do not honestly have a suitable-to-me definition for a field negro or a house negro. Those two terms are not really ones that I use to describe other black people's behavior.

I find that after years of listening to these terms being tossed around primarily because of the discomfort that someone else feels over apperance, education or conduct of another black person, those are not ways that I use to describe another person's behavior.

When a black person moves up onto the next level~that is how it is supposed to be. That is how I define progress. Not everyone appreciates the effort and energy that goes into progression. It does not negate their/our blackness.

Who is black enough to determine how black another individual is? Blackness is a state of mind. Blackness is also generational ly different. My parents definition of blackness is different than mine. My definiton of blackness is different than my children's.

I often wonder why we find it so necessary to use these terms? What purpose do they honestly serve? Granted they are cultural expressions of our displeasure over another's behavior. But in reality, I do not grasp the bottom line advantage that comes from using these two terms.

Re: Barack Obama’s black support linked to issues, not race

After reading some of the comments on the original post, all I have to say is this: It is way past due time for those individuals who keep trying to claim that we are racist~to get over it! White folks have supported white candidates throughout the nation's political history and it has been okay. We have also supported white candidates and it was okay.

Now all of the sudden we are racist because we are supporting a black candidate? Get for real.
Yes, there are folks who will vote for Barack because he is black. If it seems unfair to you what can I say? Just like there will be folks who will vote for McCain because he is a white male. There will be votes casted because there is a woman in the race too. This is the nature of American politics.

For those who want to believe that race is the sole reason for AA support, you obviously do not know much about our political culture. There have been indications that there are other health related risks.

The key to winning more support from the Black and Latino communities is for the medical community to make their intentions plain enough for people to determine if this is a project that they would like to be a part of.

I have never seen aggressive campaigns for people of color to participate in clinical trials. There is still this amazing bias and suspicion towards males in education. While female personnel is often overlooked because of our gender.

The attitude that is often projected when a woman is the offender is also gender biased. When women commit this type of crime there is this tendency to make jokes about how lucky the male is to be the object of her sexual desires.
