Sorry, but to posit the idea that patriarchy and the privilege it affords black men is non existent, is trash in itself. Damon's piece spoke to the tone-deafness of Heterosexual black men to other forms of oppresion. We see a similar tone-deafness in conversations of race and how white privilege clouds the understanding of critical race theory on the part of white folks. Like them, you make the mistake of equating privilege with ecpnomic status, wealth, or lack thereof. In doing so, with this post you actually help to prove the point of Young's piece. But perhaps the patriarchy is non-existent and is really just "fake news" in this new era of post-trith .

Re: Mentally Unstable Trump May Commit Suicide

Yeah, but Trump is living up to all expectations as an incompetent buffoon. That reference always made me chuckle. Nonetheless, black conservatives and black Republicans are just fine with being the "black friend." After all, being just that reinforces the notion that they're independent thinkers; and, unlike black folk like us who enjoy all the free warermelon, fried chicken, and red Kool Aid, on the "Democratic plantation," as they say, like you said, they're special.

Re: The Lamest Excuses Why Black People Won’t Boycott The NFL

Did you boycott the NFL when Michael Sam's - the first openly gay player to be drafted, who happens to be black - couldn't get a job after he was cut by the St. Louis Rams? Did you boycott the NFL after Vikings punter, Chris Kluwe, was cut after he spoke out against homophobia in the NFL and explained in an op-ed that it was precisely the reason Sam's was unemployed? Like Sam's, Kluwe was never picked up by another NFL team.

Not to play Oppression Olymixs here, but these are questions I think you have to ask yourself. And in doing so, you should ask yourself why you did not. Hopefully the answers aren't as "lame" as those of the black people who refuse to boycott the NFL this season.

Re: Hey, Asshole, Russia Hacked The Elections

Still think that the hacking story is silly?

Re: Professor Lisa Durden Fired After Appearance On Fox News

Well, as long as one invokes oppression, slavery, and lynchings, you can get a pass. 😅

Re: Hey, Asshole, Russia Hacked The Elections

My use of the name Trigger was an attempt at satirical humor.

Re: Hey, Asshole, Russia Hacked The Elections

Don, when he said he had "no doubt," that Russ's hacked the elections, that conclusion was, in fact, based on evidence. What he did say after answering that question, in another response, was that he had not seen any evidence of collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign. Also, the very first link in the post directs you to the full summary of the report written by the U.S. government. This isn't from anonymous sources and leaked information. Like your club being vandalized, that's inter-personal. That's something you can shrug off like you did if you choose. I won't dare suggest that people aren't within their right to feel some type of way about it like your business partner did. That aside, even so, wealth does not remove someone from being victim to racism. Now, with wealth, unlike poor people, you have more options. Wealth affords someone to avoid some of the trappings of institutional racism. In LeBron's case, his wealth makes it possible for his kids to go to private schools; they're able to avoid the trap that is inequitable school funding, and therefore shitty schools. Poor people aren't that lucky. So in that sense, he's correct, but to a point/ Even as wealthy as LeBron is, by virtue of being black, he's still subject to be racially profiled just like any other person of color. Like Dwayne Wade;s kids, his children can also be subject to random stops by police in their own neighborhood as Wade once explained. So yeah, Jason Whitlock is an idiot.

Re: Barack Obama Can Buy Any Size House He Wants

Where is the pushback coming from?

Re: You Might Be Racist If You Think Bill Cosby Is Guilty

Did you read the article, or are you stuck on the headline? As someone who knows just a little bit about blogging, I'd like to think that you can understand why language matters.

As a black man and direct descendant of people who were - and still are - systemically oppressed, you do know that an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. That said, I'd like to think that you also know that whether one is a citizen or not, on US soil, one is still protected by the US Constitution. You know, the same document that grants everyone certain protections? Well, undocumented immigrants are also afforded those protections.

This is where intersectionality becomes a part of the conversation. I don't know about you, but I think it would be hypocritical of me to make thethe protest of the violation of someone's rights contingent on where they were born, or whether they are documented immigrants or not. This is why I find it highly problematic for a black person in America to make the argument that black folks shouldn't be concerned with the immigration debate.

But hey, that's just me.

I mean, it's not like the nativist anti-immigration movement isn't funded by documented white supremacists. So, why would anyone take issue with a person of color aiding and abetting them in their ongoing fight by promoting their talking points?

So much for intersectionality.

Re: Illegal Immigration and Discrimination against Black American Men

Research finds that as immigrants enter the labor market, African Americans respond to these changes in the workforce by moving up to higher-skilled—and presumably higher-paying—jobs. In fact, African Americans are three times more likely to transition to higher-skilled jobs as a result of immigration than non-African American workers.

https://www.americanprogres...

Re: Illegal Immigration and Discrimination against Black American Men

First off, the word "illegal" isn't a noun. Secondly, nobody "supports" the hiring of undocumented workers. Third and most important, unless it can be established in court that undocumented workers were being hired, then yes, that's a problem.

Specific to the problem of enforcement, is racial profiling. As well as, individuals being placed in deportation proceedings without being convicted of a crime. That's a big problem. I'd argue that it's equally as problematic as the discrimination the lawsuit alleges if found to be true.

So, is there proof of the agency paying certain employees lower than market wages? I need to know. Beyond that, using an isolated case to represent or argue a larger point is highly problematic, my man. As a black person, you know all too well how this practice negatively impacts us.

Besides, haven't you ever heard of intersectionality?

Re: Philando Castile: Diamond Reynolds Speaks Emotionally

Did they get pulled over for smoking weed?
