Except that the "de facto" segregation of schools was often related to other acts of "de jure" segregation.

I lived in an area of northern Virginia in which the schools were ostensibly desegregated in the late 50s/early 60s. The problem was that there remained on the books laws that segregated residential properties, meaning that the ending of school segregation was virtually meaningless. For example, my 1000 student elementary school had fewer than 20 non-white students because the neighborhoods had remained segregated until the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Only when the more dramatic actions of redrawing attendance zones and limited busing brought about something resembling racial integration in the county's schools.

Well, except that this group is really not a medical group, but more of an advocacy group:
The American College of Pediatricians is a socially conservative advocacy group of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals in the United States, founded in 2002. The group's primary focus is advocating against abortion rights and against rights for gay, queer, and transgender people.

It has only about 700 members.

As opposed to the mainstream pediatrics organizations that represent the bulk of pediatricians.

And yet I see plenty of comments here that those who don't share devotion in an imaginary friend are unfit for college, and that the university should shut down the group and its activities because it might hurt the feelings of the irrational god -botherers.

Actually, I have no religion at all. Religion is the irrational belief in the imaginary that cannot be proved. Give me good, hard, scientific evidence that proves the existence of God, otherwise your God is every bit the hallucination that Zeus and Anubis are.

Two points.

The story says the event offended "Christians and Catholics". Is it now the official position of the College Fiz that Catholics are not Christians?

Second, the notion that certain religious people were offended and therefore the event should not have happened sounds like there are a lot of folks who wish the see a carve-out limiting the speech of those who don't share their beliefs. I believe that makes this a case of a group of snowflakes trying to limit the freedom of others. I'm surprised at you supporting their actions based upon past statements of principle you have made -- unless you are telling us that you never really supported those principles to begin with.
