it's the dynamics of RPS you need to consider give each piece it's own personality.

Rock- well Rock smash so it's a brute. a muscle bound brute.
Scissors- they are a crafty bunch clever in deception.
Paper- is the scholar the intellect.

so now let's play...

S v P- the intellect thinks him or herself too smart to be tricked but the clever scissors make paper mache

S v R- The clever tricks don't work on a mindless Rock so the scissors sharp tongue angers Rock and there you have it Rock goes smashy

And as to Rock Vs Scissors well. the intellect knows there is no beating rock, and wouldn't try to trick the rock. but would confuse the rock in such a way that the fight is over before it began.

I think that clears that up nicely
