Toronto has one at The Center for Social Innovation (http://socialinnovation.ca/). Not surprisingly, it has those first-come-first-serve meeting rooms, as well as tenants that clean up for themselves. And yes, there is a rate for NPO's.

Bottom line is, I really feel this could work. I have it on good authority that such a venue is being built as I type this. I have no doubt, with this person at the helm, that it will be successful.

Re: We’re Looking For A New Venue

Ryerson has GREAT facilities. We did our iPhone workshop there in June, and I love the venue. Too bad it doesn't have a bar, though.

Re: Building Amazing Experiences, Part 2

I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one, Malcolm.

Facebook is a very different experience than Twitter, in terms of engagement and the findability of customer service issues (we'll use customer service issues for this example).

Because of the sheer amount of content that is being posted to Facebook every minute, tracking these issues is a challenge at best. There is no "immediacy" when it comes to Facebook. What I mean by immediacy is that the marketing departments of brands (or their agencies) don't check Facebook every minute of the day, unless they are running a campaign of some kind. And even, they don't have eyes on it as frequently as they should.

An effective social media strategy takes into account that positive and negative things can be said about a company on any platform, regardless of whether they have a presence there or not, acts upon it, and engages the customer in resolving the issue as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Re: Kanye West’s Taylor Swift Outburst: VMA’s “YouTube Moment” [Video]

There is another video already out: http://bit.ly/NcxcW

Re: The SXSWi Panelpicker and the opportunity for Toronto to prove community works

I second Saul's comments, and I'd like to add a few thoughts of my own.

Toronto is an incredible city, and I thank my lucky stars every day that I am part of this space. Personally, I don't believe we have an inferiority complex at all. We Canadians are incredibly talented and have alot to offer, alot more that most people think. After all, wasn't it a Canadian who invented insulin?

As Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." If we can band together, and I know that we can, we too can change the world.

Re: Twitter as an Emergency Broadcast System

Wow - great idea Brent. I really like the mapping application concept - I'm sure there is a way to mashup this data into Google Maps.

I've heard about the geolocation functionality, didn't even think of it until now. Good looking out!

Re: How Toronto Organizations Are Getting The Shaft

Exactly. The AutoShare model can be applied to this kind of venture. In addition, the space could be subsidized through grants from various levels of government. I can see various ministries would be interested in something like this.

Ultimately, it comes down to supporting organizations in this city that require flexible, affordable meeting space. While organizations like CSI have helped us (and others), their space isn't big enough to support large scale needs.

Re: Building Amazing Experiences

Great experiences require very little effort and aren't expensive, yet the outcome is definitely worth it. All it takes is just a bit of thinking of how you would wanted to be treated if you were a customer.

We've worked hard to provide our event attendees with the same great experiences. We know that people attend our events because of the speakers, the content and to meet others in the industry. Our last event attracted over 60 people, approximately 50% of which were new faces. Clearly we are getting the word out in the right places, and we're certain is has to do with the quality of our events and the experiences attendees have while at our events.

Re: Mark Zuckerberg and FriendFeed Co-Founders Celebrate Deal [Pic]

Don't count Twitter out just yet. They're starting to put the final touches on their business model. I'd be willing to put my money on them monetizing either business accounts or their search functionality.

Don't forget, that unlike Facebook, Twitter hasn't even hit the "hockey stick" point in growth.

Re: An Interview with Ben Vinegar

Thanks for reading Rayanne!
