Completely agree with the above.

Some people (Elton) give for granted or maybe have a sense of entitlement, and squander the unprecedented rights and freedom we have as a result of hard-won civil rights fights that had freedom of expression at the core of those democratic rights!

Bullying those with opposing views with exhortations to boycott whatever it is that person sells (clothes, songs, etc) is an offence to the people that fought hard for those civil rights and gave us the freedom we have today.

Different choices, different lives. Equal respect!

I completely disagree that the article is worthless. Testing the user experience using the default OS behaviour (which allows ALL applications to run in the background) is quite sufficient. The article is not claiming to test how long it can last by changing the phone settings. To be honest, I have not used it and was merely speculating based on the picture. So, you might be right that it does not make any difference to night pictures.

While this case is quite nice, it has a major problem. It's too close to the flash and will severely limit its "coverage"

I don't know about any future devices but I doubt Nokia would release another hero device when the 1020 has only been released in selected markets. But I agree with you that a phablet is still a high end device.

Rafe, while I agree with most of what you're saying, it's clear that organisations are not necessarily rational or predictable. On the contrary, people and teams suffer from cognitive biases. If someone very articulate sees differentiation in the different ecosystems instead of the specific value propositions, then it's reasonable to assume that groupthink can really limit the evaluation of strategic choices (hence, Nokia decided to go for WP instead of Android).

I don't believe in conspiracy theories but please, let's not call a failed strategy the result of fatalism.

Great post (although I'm not quite sure how in the second picture S4 can have a better rating 808 :-) )

A quick comment on your score, there is no weighting given to each type of picture. I really doubt the ratio in real world of macro shots / total number of picture is 2/7 for average casual user.

I use Xeon as well and it's really good. But I think Delight is a better name than Xeon and these days marketing always wins :-)

I don't know if they are crybabies but what you say is also valid to the companies that complained about IE6. Anybody could make and launch their own browser, nescape and opera did it in fact. The reality is that people used the default browser and IE6 was "the" only browser. Issue was that MS was leveraging its dominant position and I'm glad they were forced to give users a choice.

Great post Rafe. I think it's relevant to see the percentage of all Android devices without google services but we should also consider the split in the mobile market instead of mobile + tablet. Second point would be to do the split on a market basis (i.e. do we have any Chinese variants in Europe?). Also, a relevant point is the user perception of the alternative (i.e. from a user perspective, a kindle is not a replacement for a nexus 7 tablet because the former is seen as an e-reader). All in all, regardless of who filed the complaint, I think it's a valid point to investigate further.

The title is incorrect. If we refer to market share, yes only Androind and MS grew. But in terms of number of units sold, Apple grew too (but because the market grew faster, they market share declined).

I agree that battery life is very important but how was he supposed to to test in a press event which probably lasted 1 hour? How would you test it? The manufacturer’s specifications are included, I don't think you can get more information on the battery life.

Following your logic:
Why I need to pay more council tax to build a car park if I don't have any car and will never use it?Why my tax needs to pay for the surgery of someone else considering I don't get any benefit at all from that?

I'm not in favour of a socialist state but I think it's important to have the right balance... Higher tuition fee will put off many bright students and I'm quite sure this country will suffer in the longer term...
