So far it seems to be working for me. My wife dived in whole heartedly I'm slowly wading out to the deep end because I can't afford "keto flu". The first few days to couple weeks the initial "fast" weightloss is not fat it is water weight you'll slow down after that. For it to be fat loss and more permanent you need to be in it for the long haul. Keto isn't "I need to get down to X for my HS reunion, or for beach season." Quicker fat loss happens if you combine intermittent fasting, and exercise. I'm still in the baby steps phase. Adding in foods that I can have to the menu rotation before slipping a few that I really shouldn't have off the menu.

Re: Is the Keto Diet a Good Idea For Weight Loss?

Complications after surgery for a traumatic brain injury after slipping on ice and hitting his head. You think farmers do a catch and release of rabbits, moles, deer, insert nuisance animal here?

How about all the corn, soy, and wheat that sit in warehouses because of subsidies for these products? Farmers are overproducing several crops that get overprocessed and turned into crap carbs because they pull all the nutrients out.

The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability - By Lierre Smith mentions some of this.

Re: Is the Keto Diet a Good Idea For Weight Loss?

Carbs convert to energy the fastest, followed by protein then fat. Excess energy from carbs store as fat and never get used because our bodies are trying to use the easy to convert carbs that are freely being over consumed and stored. Over consumption of carbs turns our bodies into a Hoarders episode from hell.

When we consume less carbs a moderate amount of protein and larger amounts of healthier fats our bodies can and usually will start using the fat stores.

Are there cultures out there that can stay on a mostly meat free lifestyle long term. Yes. Are there cultures out there that mostly consumed fats like blubber and were healthy until the modern exposure to crap carbs? Yes.

Is there a one size fits all solution. No.

Re: Should You Teach Kids to Share?

I feel much the same way. I get torqued when at a child's birthday party one of the other children present starts screaming "can I play with it" before the birthday child even has the present fully unwrapped. It's like let the birthday kid at least unbox it and hold it. I'm seeing too many of the slightly older kids use "why don't you share" to guilt my youngest into giving them her things too and fastest way to get on my bad side is to guilt trip in my presence.

Re: Giraffe riddle: Why you're probably answering the Facebook riddle wrong

By your line of thinking since it states that you woke up and you now know your unexpected guests are your parents for breakfast means you've already opened the door or your screaming through the door at 3 am....

Re: How ‘Pacific Rim’ Got Kaiju Wrong

Well if the old daikaiju movies are about America and our recklessness with nuclear power and threat to the world several Gamara, Godzilla and Mothra movies have said monsters SAVING the planet so they subvert their own trope.

Re: Demonize-Nation

I tease my wife because every time she disagrees with me I call her a satanist. I don't get it her church can do that to me in seriousness but I can't do it in jest?

But I do it in jest only. Churches branded me evil because of my reading and gaming habits but they didn't like it when the mirror was pointed back at them... meh humans can't live with em and to kill them all would be genocide and that's just too much damned work.

Re: Freedom of Choice

I'm hoping the father has the child's best interest at heart, and perhaps the homeschooling may be meeting the minimum requirements set by the state, but not his requirements. I know I have higher expectations of education than I could provide by homeschooling my kids which is why mine go to public school, they get a better education there than my wife or I can afford to provide at home. ( I mean I can always get much smarter people than I or at least better educated to teach them if I provided the coin)

Re: Freedom of Choice

Well the court isn't going after the Mom on their own, and even if the father isn't the custodial parent he does still have rights on how his children are raised.
