You will only see the kings opinions and none of the facts of "negotiations" with the unions. Why don't one of the crack reporters at the Snooze ask the king what the unions were willing to trade for the release of the 3% hostages. I guess that would take a little investigative reporting and they are all busy on anti union cases.

Join a union and bargain that benefit in. You may have to forgo a raise or some other benefit for a while or you may have to show the worth of the benefit but don't cry because you don't get it. If you work at a company that makes tv's I bet you get a discount when you buy one. And I bet that discount is reflected in the higher price everyone else pays for tv's. I'm tired of the complaints about benefits. When the economy is great most people couldn't care less about the people taking care of your community on a daily basis. When the economy slips some people think if they lose their jobs the public works people should automatically become indentured slaves.

Do a little history search to find out who fought and won those benefits. I love the anti-union crowd whining about how unions are bad and we don't need them while all the time sucking at the teet of all the unions hard fought benefits. Had we watied for you moaners and complainers to fight for better wages or benefits we's still be doing forced overtime for half the pay with no benefits. Stop complaining about other people fighting for better wages and bennies man up and fight for your own.

Well Mr Fallon very good point:

Why don't you ask the Salem Snooze to do an expose' on who paid into the pension fund (the employees) for all those years and who didn't pay their share (the Cities and Towns) to create the unfunded liability of which you speak. Again the Snooze slants the story to make it sound like the union caused the problem when in fact the Cities and Towns spent years NOT funding their half of the pension fund and as a matter of fact they invested the employees contributions and stole some of the interest every year to fund their own budgets. Again I say ask the anti-union Snooze to look into that for you. I bet you will wait a long time for that investigative article.

The retirement system is a state system. A percent of an employees salary is taken out (5% to 7%) and put into investments. The city or town was supposed to match that amount to fund the system. The cities and towns collected the employees money, invested it and made a profit. It the city or town made, say 8% interest and the state came out with an average return for all of the cities and towns of say 3%, then the city or town could skim 5% of the profits made from the employee's contributions. The unions were ALWAYS against this practice and only a few years ago did the state finally come up with the mechanism to FULLY FUND the system. As you may have guessed this was the beginning of the "unfunded liability debacle" because the actuarial people put the cities and towns on a funding schedule to pay "THEIR SHARE" of the funding.

Hey $$ why so angry? I explain what I know about the state pension system and you get your knickers all in a twist. read my post below and learn grasshopper. The state pension system is based on the fact that so many people are in it that they don't have to pay out all at the same time. Those in it now are subsidizing those retired. It's not hard figure out!. My point is that you read the Salem Snooze and probably watch Faux Snooze and are just a tad bitter that any one who works in the public sector is unworthy of any salary above the poverty level. I bet you have no problem spending a couple hundred dollars going to a Sox game for high priced sports figures to make millions and yet you cry about an EMT making $15 and hour to potentially save your life one day. How much should public safety people and the people you rely on on a daily basis get paid? Should they be able to live in a community they protect? should they be able to send their kids to college? Should they have a decent pension after decades of taking care of you and your families needs? Just asking. If you think it's such a good deal why don't you apply for one of these jobs? And again am I really your pal?

I love the union haters who receive better wages and benefits thanks to the trickle down effect of the hard fought battles waged by union members. When union members fight for a dollar or two more an hour the non union shops have to keep up. The union haters should thank the union people for fighting for an honest days pay for a days work. They obviously don't realize the connection, or they are the shop owners trying to keep wages low and their own profits up.

No watchdog it is you who doesn't know what the real world is about. Have you seen the prices of just about every commodity or service? When anyone anywhere in the country gets a raise the price of their goods or services goes up. Union and non-union alike! In effect all this union bashing about the unions costing more can be said about any sector private or public. Mr. Baker gets a raise, bread goes up, Mr tv maker gets a raise, tv's go up. And by the way, union workers fight for a raise and non union wages go up. A real world lesson.

Do you really think any reporter at the Snooze is going to do an expose' on the real story? Do you really think they would look into the rumor that the best administrator on the North Shore would double up on raises then make a big deal about his department heads taking a 0? That's funny!
