I think there's probably a happy medium where clips are slowed down more or paused to make them more digestable like the old style, but still just have everything in one video. I looked to get away from having multiple video embeds and copy this season because it's a lot to get through for a reader.

Re: Film Session: Louisiana

You're welcome! I think having Rob fouled out and Hunter not suited up also hurt what kind of lineups Miller could roll out in OT as well. Those are two guys you have to pay more attention to on the perimeter.

Re: Film Session: Iowa

Fixed!

Re: Film Session: Florida State

Great question. I watched all of his defense intently in the first half of this game. He seemed quite locked in and played well on that end in my opinion. Part of my theory on why he didn't play down the stretch and in overtime is that Archie is really riding the starters heavy minutes so far this year -- especially when it matters.

And Archie is also preferring Galloway over Hunter at this point in the season. I think that's because Galloway is more versatile in what he can do. He can play off and on the ball (Hunter is really only an off ball guy, mostly), can grab a rebound and go (Hunter seems to have to pass the ball off any defensive rebound he gets), and he's also playing defense well enough to be trusted. He's got a great motor at all times and is a confident kid.

While fans are certainly frustrated with the 3-point shooting and Hunter seems like a remedy for that, there is less versatility and interchangeable parts on the floor when he's in the lineup. Ideally, Durham, Franklin and Phinisee are making an average amount of 3-pointers, playing great defense and making plays off ball screens. That makes the need for Hunter less necessary or urgent to fix shooting problems.

But when the shots aren't dropping from that trio, the focus turns to a player that is more shooter than playmaker to give IU something from beyond the arc. But it's not always as simple as "play Hunter more" if you're giving up some things with him on the floor as well. Remember too, that he was pretty bad in Maui, so he's still working into things this season as well.

Re: That’s A Wrap: Archie Miller

Thank you!

Re: That’s A Wrap: Archie Miller

It did not. Devonte grew up watching Rafer Alston and Jamal Crawford. He remembers seeing Alston playing street-ball in the And1 League and being the only And1 player to make it to the NBA. He saw his style work for him and knew he could do the same.

“New York has a strong basketball culture, and I think just growing up in that culture makes you a different player,” Devonte said.

New York’s influence is what pushes Devonte’s confidence to shoot from anywhere on the floor, a mentality that only grows with every make. When he’s hot, there is only one thing on his mind.

Re: Film Session: Arkansas

Thanks, Kwang! Couple that with no focus and energy, and it's a disaster."

Re: Film Session: Fort Wayne

Yeah, this seemed to be Fort Wayne's game plan. Spread out all five guys on the perimeter and take Indiana out of pack line principles in the paint. IU just seemed like it was caught in the middle of pack line vs. what the opponent was actually doing and the results were not good. I wonder if straight up man to man would have been better as well.

Re: Film Session: Fort Wayne

I was thinking the same thing. Not entirely sure either, but it seems the idea is JM is supposed to actually hedge, but if his man isn't rolling to the basket and thus close enough to other IU defenders in the pack line to impede him a bit, things can really break down. I think FW did a nice job of spreading Indiana out on the perimeter -- and thus a bit out of pack line position -- and going to work.

Re: The Minute After: Duke

Thanks!

Re: Film Session: Howard

Thank you, sir!

Re: Film Session: Louisville

http://kenpom.com/team.php?...

Re: Film Session: UMass Lowell

Yeah, that would be really cool. If I want to tell a better story of the defense as a whole, I could easily just string together smaller clips in a video instead of doing longer breakouts with photos of each play. But if I'm tied to this format, it's a lot harder to do.

Anyone please feel free to give me feedback about what can be better about Film Session. This seems to be a feature we do on ITH that people enjoy, but that doesn't mean it can't get better. And it doesn't mean I'm always right.

Re: Film Session: UMass Lowell

Cool.
