It was a joke. Being smart has nothing to do with it (although she's on the opposite side of my political view); I simply like women to look like women. I just did a Google image search on her (https://www.google.com/sear... and the first images seemed to be comparing her with Matthew Perry.

When I first saw her on TV, I wasn't sure of her gender, either. She has that k. d. lang androgynous quality, which I don't find sexy at all. Different strokes, I guess.

I don't recall Microsoft ever restricting the colors of Pocket PCs. Early HP Jornadas weren't silver, if I recall correctly, and some Toshibas had colored cases.

Thanks for the info. It sounds pretty decent, especially if people who buy early aren't left out of the LTE boat thanks to an upgrade.

However, I'm still unsure of the value proposition. I can get a 10+" netbook for far less money (less than 50%) and plug in a USB modem if I need cellular service. Yes, the netbook will be somewhat larger (and may not have the cameras and 1080p playback, although the Xoom doesn't have a Full HD display, either), but the clamshell form factor acts as a screen protector and you get a real keyboard and better peripheral support.

Plus, if I get a Windows netbook, I can run all of my standard Windows programs. Say what you want about the iPhone App Store and the Android Marketplace, but I bet there are still a lot more programs available for Windows.

It’s priced reasonably for what this 10.1-inch 1280 x 800-pixel tablet is packing compared to the iPad.

Thank you Verizon for your pioneering, innovative efforts and results.

I'm a mostly-happy Verizon Wireless user, but how much of this is really "innovative"? I don't believe that Verizon developed LTE; it was done by an international standards body. Verizon certainly isn't the only company with on-demand video, either.

But, press release materail aside (interesting as it may be), let's not forget to thank Verizon Wireless for some of their other things.

Thank you, Verizon, for crippling Bluetooth phones until you got sued.

Thank you, Verizon, for disabling GPS until you got hammered (I don't remember if you got sued or not).

Thank you, Verizon, for overcharging on fees until you got sued.

Thank you, Verizon, nickling and diming us for features (like parental controls on a family plan to limit our kids' spending -- if we pay $5 month).

Thank you, Verizon, for double charging and overcharging for things (like ringback tones, which you pay $1 per month for -- with no songs -- and then another $2 per song per year -- when you can get a whole song from iTunes for $1 that doesn't time out).

Thank you, Verizon, for talking about elimating unlimited data plans in favor of tiered ones when you really can offer both.

Some people need to get a grip. This is just a color for a phone. Maybe if it were actually released it would be worth a one paragraph story. Speculating on vaporware for months is just silly. Are there really people who say, "Well, the iPhone is cool and all, but not being white is a deal breaker"?

How do you expect them to do that? If your number is ported, your carrier doesn't have the account.

In fact, if your Google Voice number forwards to your cell phone, I'm not sure what the point of porting would be.

I will never understand the naïve acceptance of such a primitive device as the Kindle. I honestly think that people just don’t know any better or they would never give the Kindle a second glance. It deserves to be relegated to the trash heap of discarded memorabilia.

Srong statements there, Tim. While you may think that I don't know any better, I can assure you that a lot of thought went into my decision to choose a Kindle.

First, when I got mine (May 2010), there were only three really popular readers -- the Kindle, the Nook and the Sony ones.

Sony didn't have a tie-in with a bookstore and didn't have cellular wireless, so it was out.

I almost bought a Nook because of the promise of Android apps. However, the reviews that I read said that it was slow and glitchy.

So I went with the Kindle. Is it perfect? Of course not. I'd love expandable memory, for example, but it had best combination of features, support and books at the time, in my opinion.

The point is, why would anyone want to pay several hundred dollars for a unifunctional device that only does one thing, and it doesn’t even do it very well? Instead, why not get a device for the same price such as an Android Tablet that can do everything—a machine that is a real computer? Makes lots of sense to me.

Me, too -- if I were going to pay "several hundred dollars". However, even when I bought my Kindle (just before the big price reduction, GRRRR), it was under $300. I don't know anybody who would call 2-3 "several".

As for "unifunctional" devices, did you run out and buy a Smart TV, or do you have a "unifunctional" one that only plays video from video sources? Do you have a DVR, or do you task your PC to do that? There are good reasons for single-function devices.

I also like the concept of wireless chargers for such devices as phones, cameras, and MP3 players. But I didn’t see any that did not require affixing some kind of tab to back of a device, which I don’t like and would not purchase any of these chargers for that reason. There is room for improvement in this area. Maybe next year there will be wireless chargers that are also devoid of ugly and cumbersome add-on parts.

First, I wouldn't really call them "wireless chargers". The chargers themselves do have wires -- they have to plug in somewhere. If you call these conductive chargers "wireless", then I'd argue that docking cradles are also wireless.

Second, while I agree that having to stick something on your device makes it a non-starter for me, I believe that the leading conductive charger has special battery doors for some devices, so you don't need to stick something on the back of your device.

I was disappointed not to see much in the way of accessories for Android devices, but that’s the rub. There is just one iPhone, iPod, and iPad for accessory makers to worry about, and there is a myriad of Android products all requiring separate adaptations.

While your overall point is true (simlar to Windows Mobile phones), there is not "just one iPod" or "just one iPhone". The iPod Shuffle, Nano, Classic and Touch require different accessories (with the possible exception of chargers -- and even those often require adapters). And that's not counting the various generations -- the iPod Nano 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were all different form factors, I believe.
