Hello San Diego Union Tribune. I would like to clarify a statement in this article.

The experience level needed is that of a 5th grader. No special tools or knowledge were needed. If you read the blog posts and did some googling like, "How to find out why a website is down", you would be able to follow instructions to do what I did.

Yes. Many companies already have the ability to create memorable urls to their social networking pages.

I created a video tutorial showing how you can create a subdomain like http://facebook.domain.com and http://facebook.mychurch.org which puts control back into your hands vs waiting until midnight to make your "grab".

I agree. The good thing is that this excitement over vanity url's is empowering people to understand the value in short url's. No one needs to understand how .htaccess files work, only to realize, "Hey! It' easy to tell people my social networking address at Facebook now!"

George, thanks for sharing about this. I attended BlogHer09 and this was my first. I've been to tech conferences before and 2 blog conferences this summer but wow, the stories I'm hearing about fights over sex toys, theft from parties and now blackmail show me that some people attending are simply there for selfish reasons.

Glad you put your foot down and sent her running!

From the comments, it looks like many people think highly of you. It's very important that people share their experiences and I'm so glad you put this out here as a lesson on how you dealt with it and hopefully as a warning to would be blackmailers.

I agree that the sense of entitlement men have, especially White men, cause them to see the world in a different way. Normally I don't get involved in "political discussions" but this is different since it's about real people and the lack of media coverage.

Sodini sounds like he hated women and since he was in IT, it just brings back thoughts I have when I interact with men in technology, "Does he think I'm edging him out of a job?". Even though the reality is that people who don't keep their skills updated become dated.

When I first heard about this story, I thought, "I bet this guy has trouble with women." so to find out that he blamed anyone else besides himself just makes me sick to my stomach.

First let me say that until today, I didn't know there was a blog for Network Solutions. It's running on Wordpress so that a relief.

Here's the thing about asking small business owners about the web; they don't know much so it's like asking a person where their glasses are but they can't see.

Renaming the services was a big mistake because it's like teaching kids to speak Dutch but they live in Italy. You are essentially creating a group of people who cannot speak to anyone else on the internet.

Jason Sadler is selling out by pushing real estate, baby food, lawn care, shoes, iPhone apps, a human kidney, software and calling cards.

I started my Ustream channel in December, around the same time Jason was rounding up buyers for his spots in 2009 on this concept. I observed how he was going about it and decided it lacked integrity.

He doesn't understand the products he promotes and his idea is not unique as there's http://girl.inyourshirt.tv

What good is this sort of advertising if you put Jason in front of an audience and he can't speak about your product past the 30 second pitch you emailed him?

I'm taking a different route for http://askadria.com where I focus on explaining business technology in easy to understand terms for companies, IT techies and website developers so when I go to conferences, people and sponsors recognize I know my stuff. I explore technology on http://butyoureagirl.com with a focus on people who need to start using technology n-o-w.

Although I'm just starting to look for sponsors now, the body of work I have built up online through videos and posts establishes value in the eyes of those potential sponsors. I find my future as a speaker, trainer and tech blogger bright...without having to sellout and promote stuff I don't understand or care about.

Plus, people say I'm fun and wild (in a good way) at conferences!

Mosques, Synagogues, Churches and Buddhist temples all need websites and blogs!

I've done work for republicans but I won't do work for debt collectors. I don't judge others for their beliefs but I guess I do draw the line on if I think their contributions the world add value or detract.

I would provide technology services to a person who was Gay and to an organization like Rainbow Families who supports Gay marriage.

I would provide technology services to a client who was Muslim and also to a Mosque.

People should date who they like and marry who they like. Marriage is a public commitment to another person and I support that.

I don't believe that in order for one religion to be right, the others need to be wrong. I know there was a tweet from @Pawsville indicating if service was refused based on religion that could lead to a legal case.

"I don't agree with how you live your life" is not a reason to deny services.

That's good to know! I wondered about this for a while. I can only imagine what women of years past went through entering the workplace. I'm grateful that things have improved so that I can be gainfully employed as a consultant but it does not leave my mind how people go about making business decisions.

Thanks! I'll keep thinking on this topic about ways to introduce discussion of technology services and the Gay community. As we can see below with @Andrew, he obviously feels justified in refusing services to people based on his personal religious and moral beliefs vs U.S. law.

The future of blogging will allow for people to begin blogs at birth.

Your parents will register your blog at a family name space or register your own custom domain based on preference. You will learn the importance of interacting with others and #crowdsourcing will be taught in preschool.

Your medical records will tie into your blog identity through a system similar to OpenID or OAuth. Your teachers will be able to input homework assignments, grades and updates to your blog.

Finances will also tie into your blog space. Resumes will certainly be digital in the future and your blog will be viewed as an ongoing, historical timeline of who you are.

Now you may be concerned about people knowing so much about you. Get over it. There will always be those among us who wish to remain under the radar but the Internet will continue to provide a fertile breeding ground for data scraping so why fight the inevitable that we will "be" online?

As we proceed into high school, flirting will occur on our blogs. Email will be tightly integrated with your blog identity. People will have widgets that represent the continent they live on. Maybe Tomagotchi's will make a comeback on blogs as virtual pets.

When you become an adult, your blog can be tied into your employer's company blog, allowing other employees to easily find and connect with others who share their same interests. Forget LinkedIN! An interesting idea would be a weekly email of employee announcements generated from an algorithm based on your recent blog content.

I seen automation on blogs as a big part of our future. The need to update your blog with, "Got a new job!" or "I'm attending the 2025 Blogword conference!" will be automatic as blogging software will scan your email and calendar for these type of events and leave draft posts for your approval.

Health care will vastly improve because our blogs will record our health stats. By the times problems begin to appear later on in life, we will have detailed health records that are linked to posts, life events and the weather. This will help our children and our children's children with family planning and health management.

When we die, our blogs will stand a testament to who we were, what we accomplished and how people will remember us. Instead of newspapers charging an arm and a leg for "virtual" grieving areas, our personal blogs will serve this purpose to for eternal eulogies.

Centralizing our life data of contacts, email, public and private communication on our blogs is what the future holds.

I would love to take this vision to Blogworld 2009!

Jason, I really enjoy that you point out that people gravitate towards positive messages and information vs whiny complaining which can occur on blogs. I subscribe to HARO (curious to see what folks are looking for) and Jason Calcanis' newsletter (To see what deep thoughts about business he has).

A newsletter I really enjoy is the one put out by Freshbooks. They make web based invoicing software that can be used instead of Quickbooks. Even though I don't use their service, I enjoy the content, design and peppy energy in their newsletters that I open them with a smile!

Email newsletters get a bad name being abused by spammy marketers so I've stayed away from them until recently but seeing my RSS subscriber numbers grow in Feedburner tells me people like to "hear from you".

Thank you for your comment. I've been using Joomla since 2005 and used
Mambo before that (foundation CMS of Joomla) so that means I've been using,
installing, configuring and supporting Joomla for 5 years.

It's complex and bulky compared to Wordpress. It's less secure as well.
Millions more people are loving the easy and beauty of Wordpress.

Wordpress is a better website platform.

Maybe I'll do another review on the two in January.

Thanks for your warning on being "more objective", lol. I define the
requirements of a project based on the needs of my clients vs what I am
comfortable with.
