That and there is a definite improvement in mentality against lower sides. It doesn't seem like much of a mystery to me.

Apart from Almunia and Eduardo, no-one significant has fallen back this year. As for Eduardo, I find it curious that people blame his injury for his loss of form, but when he came back, his finishing was very confident. No, the real turning point is the dive incident vs Celtic. Since being put under the magnifying glass his cool demeanour and mentality has been lost.

Re: Articles - Did he really say that?

There's no point of comparing these managers unless you can figure out what they would do at Arsenal. We are in a financially unique position. In the long-term, we stand to be one of the healthiest clubs, but in the mean time, we need to look after the cash. Name another club in a comparable position. Man Utd and Bayern certainly are not.

A better way to compare manager's ideologies, then, is to look at the way Wenger managed before the temporary financial constraints that the Emirates investment has brought. And before the Emirates, no one sought to accuse Wenger of not caring about trophies; in fact, he seemed rather good at it. His philosophy is no different today. He is trying to protect the long-term destiny of the club, and right now, that means a certain frugality.

Wenger wants to win trophies, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. But really, the best way to guarantee as much success (winning competitions, leagues) for the club as possible involves looking out for the future. There is nothing "fishy" about this philosophy. The logic is so blatantly obvious, but it appears that "supporters" find it difficult to grasp because it isn't exactly common amongst other clubs.

Re: Articles - Did he really say that?

I imagine a transfer fee was on the table, Fulham asked Hangeland if he would consider it, and he said no, at which points further transfer talks were pointless.

Re: Articles - Did he really say that?

Let's make something clear; he didn't stay at Fulham over Arsenal for trophies. He stayed there because he is attached to the club, he gets on well with the management, he doesn't want to be a mercenary etc. So let's not turn this into what it's not; he is justifying the decision, in hindsight, on the basis of the Europa Cup final - but this is a bolt out of the blue, and not representative of why he didn't move in the first place.

I find it entirely arrogant of us to assume that all players should want to move to us, but equally arrogant of Utd or Barca to say the same thing. It doesn't mean we're doing something wrong when a player rejects us. Some players would just rather stay at the club they're at - see Le Tissier, Shearer. And let's not forget that our philosophy brings players to the club too, see Arshavin and Ramsey, for instance.

I know you saw the interview and got a little excited that this was a chance to have a go at Wenger's philosophy, but you are so way off the mark here. And, for the record, Wenger doesn't prefer money over trophies. He prefers two trophies over one. There's no point in blowing the LONG TERM STABILITY of the club (read: many trophies indefinitely into the future) for short term gains (read: one or two trophies now). This common misconception is an embarrassment.

Re: Album Review: Dry the River
 – Bible Belt EP

Best EP I've heard this year, I get the feeling the reviewer is missing something significant here. The drums are NOT mixed too low, the chorus of Weights & Measures DOES NOT fall short, and these tracks are not "restrained" - they're just well crafted!
You also seem rather keen to dig up some deep contextual family based meaning to it all, which is perhaps why you're missing the point. This isn't a complex, concept EP. It's just a band in a very creative, exciting space, sharing it with whoever wants to listen.

Re: Plankton: Bob Dylan Christmas Q&A session

- this is devastating news to hear.
