We spend a lot of time holding ourselves to what we "believe" to be everyone else's idea of being successful, when it only matters that we are achieving the right kind of success for ourselves. Helping others, spending time with family, that's what really counts toward success.

This is why people living all over the world in different levels of poverty and wealth all have similar levels of happiness. Not everyone can do everything. Trying to push ourselves to some perceived goal of someone else, we often forget to ask if the people who have aspired to and have achieved our aspirations are anymore happy than we are.

Dan Gilbert gave a very good talk on how humans percieve happiness at TED. How we often over assume that if our situation changed that we'd be better off.

In the end it's people are the most important aspect of our lives. Doing what really matters, matters.

Re: 6 Mobile Games That Beat Playing on a Console

I can definitely agree with Infinity Blade and Plants vs Zombies. I don't necessarily blog to promote myself, but the same principle carries over. When I transferred from being a video game blogger to starting my own business I was amazed at how well my skills translated.

When you're so used to doing things for yourself and only for yourself, it's impossible to gauge just how valuable your skillset actually is. The fact is when you do things online (especially blogging) you cultivate a rare set of skills that can't be learned. Self reliance, an affinity for web applications, inside knowledge of an industry that those who don't live on a computer even know about. When you can prove that and show tangible results, there's nothing that can stop people from paying :).

Re: Fashism Raises $1 Million From Ashton Kutcher, Ron Conway & Others

I think they're run by Notseez.

Re: Weekend Gaming: “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II,” “Fable 3″ [OPEN THREAD]

Been playing Halo Reach and Fable 3 most recently. My friend list has moved onto other games than Reach, so until Bungie raises the level cap and/or releases new maps I doubt I'll be playing in a group which leads to not wanting to play it at all. Happens every time a new Halo comes out. My friends and I play it for a few weeks almost non-stop, then I end up getting sick of the maps and go play something else. Having only 3 maps to a playlist doesn't encourage much variety either.

Fable 3 has a some really lagged co-op. If it weren't for that I'd be enjoying it a lot more. For some reason the combat isn't meshing with me as much as in the first two games. Feels off, and melee attacks don't connect as well as they should for me. Not that it's difficult by any means. I've used health potions twice, and even then was never close to dying, just accidentally used it when I meant to slow time.

Re: Motorola Defies the Elements with New Android Device [VIDEO]

I wonder how many people are going to try this as soon as they get it. Mainly just by the fact that no one has control over the link types that come to their site. Say someone managed to get you 1,000 links from XXX sites, it would definitely cause Google to raise an eyebrow, but unless they saw a trend or "link wheel" pattern the chance of negative impact would be slight. It just wouldn't benefit your ranking.

Not using Social Media to capitalize on free traffic is definitely a waste. You want to retain customers that purchase from you, and SM is the easiest way to do that. In the end it was a costly mistake but it's good to see that Abood and co. rebounded. Best practice is to find out what a Search Engine Marketer is going to do for you, see their plan, and demand they stick to it. Larger companies seem to be more difficult to get to adhere to this however.

Re: How to Learn Search Engine Optimization

SEO is as simple or as hard as you make it, like anything. You can build a house yourself if you want to, or you can hire a builder. Only difference is whether or not you actually want to live in it, or if it will stand on its own. There are a lot of methods and techniques to brute force your way to a higher search ranking. Paying attention to detail will determine if your rank is sustainable.

I encourage every small business owner or anyone in charge of their company's online presence to research SEO, at least enough to figure out who they want doing it for them if they don't believe they have the time or experience to do it themselves.

Re: Top 10 Best Cities for Bloggers

I'm in West Melbourne myself.
