You are thinking of the "great plains" or the "central" states, perhaps, but the most "midwest" states of all (the Big Ten states surrounding the Great Lakes) are excluded from your odd definition.

In today's world, health insurance providers take on some risk. That will be eliminated when the ACA is fully implemented. Health insurance companies will do nothing but take profit under the ACA. With medical loss ratios and risk adjustment, the insurance companies will take a guaranteed profit for providing no service at all (other than providing some political cover).

If the first verse is sung to Pancho, then why does Townes say "now" you wear your skin like iron? Pancho is dead and it's Lefty who is no longer "free and clean," but is "now" growin' old.

Also, to me it has always been clear that Lefty betrayed Pancho with his "mouth" and not a gun. Lefty was the gregarious one, the talker, the "favorite" son, playing the blues all night. Pancho was the gun guy.

What happened? Just speculation, but I think Lefty got in too far over his head with Pancho and the Federales put Lefty between a rock and a hard place. Lefty ended up being Pancho's achilles heel.

I think the first verse is about Lefty because the second verse is about Pancho and because of the juxtaposition between the first verse (how it started for Lefty) and the last verse (how it ended).

I think Lefty tipped off the Federales about Pancho because, contrary to their boasts, they could not find him on their own. The key clue to this theory is how the dust ended up "in Lefty's mouth," which was the source of Pancho's (and ultimately Lefty's) downfall.

I like how the song takes a sympathetic view of Lefty. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. It's great how Townes lets us all walk in Lefty's shoes.

In the Bible, Christ is not presented as a solution to a peculiar problem on Earth. He is God. And He is the ONLY path to salvation. Limiting His importance to only one small section of the universe (i.e., Earth) would require a substantial re-working of the Christian narrative and would substantially belittle the heretofore central role of Jesus in that narrative.

In other words, I don't disagree with your assertion that God could deal separately with each separate race, but I think demoting the Bible story to being applicable to Earth only would be a big problem for Christianity as we know it.

Must the intelligent aliens know Christ in order to get into Heaven?
How could they know Christ if he only came to this planet?If other Christs went to other planets, then what does that do to the trinity?If the same Christ went to every separate planet, then are we ready to conclude that he was crucified and rose again once for every other planet with intelligent life (which could number in the millions or billions or be an infinite number)?

Why isn't there anything in the Bible about all of the other intelligent beings on all of the other planets?

I think Christianity better hope that humans are the only intelligent life in the universe. It's the only way to keep the story together.

We already know too much to believe that any one particular faith tradition on Earth has actually been correct all along. The stories in the Bible make much more sense in the historical context in which they were written. At this point--now that we've discovered so much about the size of the universe, the evolution of life on earth, and how the neurons in our brains work--its time to call a fable a fable.

Step back and ask yourself how likely it is that you just happened to be born into the "correct" faith on the "chosen" planet...
