Rational conservatives are needed!

Re: Campaign Zero: Doing the Hard Work on Police Accountability

I agree with better training and standards and revision of some laws that are obviously a problem. Civil asset forfeiture and no-knock raids have to go. As for ticket quotas, as long as the fines from tickets can't make up more than a designated low percentage of the overall budget, quotas should be fine. If I were a police chief I'd expect patrol officers to write some average number of tickets each month or they are likely being lazy.

But a big part of reducing police shootings (and the data show whites are just as likely to get shot as blacks if you adjust for frequency of interaction with the police) is training. Someone mentioned Loury, McWhorter and others who have delved into this topic. Some of their info comes from Peter Moskos who's book and blog "Cop in the Hood" is a great resource for information and insight on differing levels of police shootings in different cities and what constitutes a "good" shoot or a "bad" shoot. Some cities, like NYC until recently, do far better than others.

Finally, we should revise drug laws including those for cocaine, heroin and other hard drugs. There will be negative impacts from doing so, but I don't think we can fix the incarceration and violence problems without eliminating the illegal drug trade. The drug war is a failure.

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: rEPUBLICAN:

I've been lurking on this blog for around 15 years. It has influenced my thoughts on politics and society more than any other source. Admittedly I've been drifting away ever since the split into the post-Judd alliance. Back when this was the best dang thing on the internet, and it taught me the difference between a conservative, a liberal, a left wing freak and a right wing yahoo. I used to make this a daily read. I now come back once a week. But to accept that the always intelligent M. thinks the left has no outlet in the Media? That the only thing that matters to the blog is Trump hate? That all that's left is seeing the indefatigable Ratbert trying to defend and uphold the great history of this blog? There was a time when a dozen brilliant thinkers would be jumping in on this topic. And it would be fun, funny and incitefull. Eff it. I miss BrothersJudd. What the heck happened? What the heck became of this blog?

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: WE ARE ALL NEOCONOMIST NOW:

My point exactly. It's a perfect combination of power/money grab. And if the environmentalists don't gain power and money from any proposed carbon tax, then cutting carbon is a non-issue.

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: WE ARE ALL NEOCONOMIST NOW:

"Virtually every environmentalist thinks it's crucial; many believe it's the single most important thing we could do".

Unless you include the term "revenue neutral". Washington State had a carbon tax initiative on the ballot that was revenue neutral. It was opposed by the Sierra Club and a long list of other environmental groups. It was supported by scientists and moderates on both sides of the aisle. It failed miserably at the ballot box.

Re: Do Toner Cold Calls Really Sell Any Toner?

I don't see as much of these as I did 10 yrs ago, but toner reps used to imply they were your normal supplier to trick whoever answered the phone to accept an order. The painters union (whatever that is) is on strike (they already had been replaced and don't work there) and the other unions are walking off for one day of support. My friend went golfing. Then they all go back to work on Monday. It's a "shot across the bow" as he says simply because Tesla went outside Nevada and brought in some "superior culture" people from NM or AZ to work for less. It's a next to nothing blip on the screen for the Tesla project.

Re: Guest Post: Quarterback Tiers Based On Age and Talent

Kaepernick ANY/A worst season is better than Tannehill's best season. But get just a little way out of town and the burbs and they seem slower. As for clubs, I usually bought second hand until I finally bought my first new driver 2 years ago - the Taylor Made RBZ 2. It added around 20yds to my average drive and fewer mis-hits. Went from 250yds to at least 270yds on average. I don't regret the purchase, though $250 was a steep price.

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: LAUGHING AT, NOT WITH:

Gutfeld's blogging on Huffpo was fantastic.

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: LAUGHING AT, NOT WITH:

I've recorded and watched Red Eye since it's debut. It was often uncomfortably clumsy and crass, but that was offset by the bits that were hilarious. It was much more a libertarian show than a conservative one. But I remain a Gutfeld fan. And the show might even improve if they make Tom Shillue the full time host. It's the only show on Fox News that I still watch.

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: ALL OUR ALLIES ARE UNDER OUR UMBRELLA...:

Seems to be working well for Ukraine.

Re: BrothersJudd Blog: THE BELTWAY ISN'T THE BASE:

They are all for it.
