Being the Neighborhood Watch Captain in my neighborhood is South Central Austin, I assisted in the capture the burglary suspects in a morning "kick the door in" type residential burglary. You have to be proactive after being burglarized, if a neighbor has a description of the burglars or vehicle information with the license plate. A victim can call 311 and update your offense report number. When updating your offense report number, be prepared to provide a detailed list of items stolen with the model and serial number. By taking these steps until your assigned detective contacts you, help the detective. Plus, updated report information can be viewed by other patrol units city-wide and there is a chance, the burglars just riding around town could be spotted by yourself, the police or the neighbor who witnessed, as I did when I was passed driving down the road.</p><p>You never want to confront someone you think burglarized your home or auto for your own safety, call 911 like I did and follow the vehicle until a patrol car stops the vehicle. The vehicle I spotted from my neighborhood burglar, contained 3 Hispanics, one was wanted out of Bexar County on a Homicide Warrant, one was wanted out of Bastrop County for Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer and the other was wanted out of Tarrant County for Indecency with a Child.</p><p>You just have to secure your home, keep the serial numbers to all your property, and carry homeowners insurance.</p>PatJohnsonTue, 31 Mar 2009 23:55:42 -0000
