It will not disappear anytime soon but the way advertisers can engage with it is changing. What happens when I am subscribing to Britain's got talent over Google TV or an improved version of Apple TV and I am watching it commercial free. What happens when networks can't run commercials on their remnant inventory to meet purchased impressions?

What happens when the new way a TV works makes the current approach to buying space and interrupting shows with messages something that is even less effective than it is today.

I never said anything about TV disappearing, I actually think it will play an even bigger part of our lives in the future. It is the way that marketers need to think about their approach that is changing.

Re: Skittles: Tube Sock

Thanks for your comment Kimberly. They did nothing to make it their own.

Over the past few weeks the difference between inspiration and stealing have been hot topics as the Cundari situation found international light and discussion. I think Thomas Allen summed it up best when he basically said that Inspiration is when you do something new or different based on a body of work, or piece of art.

In this case all DK was inspired to do was copy.

See some of the Thomas Allen discussions here. http://bit.ly/bTJBZe

If they aren't wanting to take credit then they should quit using the word inspired and replace it with "we decided to copy".

Re: P&G: To their Moms, they will always be kids

That is awesome. I was watching the game with jewish friends and nobody said a thing or even knew.

I think this is something that people can get over. The Green Police is also the main arm for the government of Israel's environment protection agency. Let's move on people.

Re: A comment on Memes

Done and done :)

Re: A comment on Memes

Could "Milka-wha" be the meme of the Superbowl? The only reason I watched the whole thing is that I wanted to post about it. It was a little boring at times. They could have hit several demographics by splitting it up into a number of different videos that could possibly extend the length of the campaign. I don't think the other commenters were necessarily saying it should be shortened for the purpose of TV, just for the purpose of effectiveness.

Re: TBWA AIDS GRAFFITI: A message not an experience

Thanks for your comment Jackie. I think we will see a cocooning type effect within a lot of the networks or communities that we belong to. Reducing our participation to only what we get value back from as well as reducing the number of people that we allow into our circle.

The problem is that you first need to discover what is too much or invaluable before you can properly manage your "unplugging". Hopefully we can all learn and pass this wisdom on to our children :)

Re: Get involved in your conversations

Slightly different so I think we are both clear :)

Re: Create experiences, not messages and destinations.

Thanks for the comment James, but I am going to have to disagree with you here :)

Looking at creating your own space is akin to a retail store that targets teenage girls buying there own property outside of the city, off the beaten path and out of touch with the day to day travels, interests and existing behaviour of their target. This doesn't work. Instead they should rent space in a mall, or a pay a premium to purchase a piece of property downtown if they are looking to invest long-term in market.

The amount of money that they will have to spend over time to create that community, sustain its visits and interests is a waste of money when you can just place your retail experience where your target already lives.

Flipping this back to online and communities we can look at the fact that brands should be investing in creating ownable experiences that benefit both the brand and the consumer. These experiences should be available within all of the platforms that will connect them to their target including their dot-com, Facebook, YouTube, Funny or die ... whatever is the right place to effectively deliver a brand experience is correct.

Within the networks that you place your experiences you should be looking to create your own micro communities where you begin to own the relationship as a brand so that you can migrate them out of that platform and into a eCRM program if required.

Finally, within your experiences you need to deliver elements that drive to ownable territories such as, download an iPhone or Blackberry app, subscribe to a loyalty program, etc where you as the brand can continue the relationship on your own terms.

For very few brands, business models and industries would creating your own platform. You need to utilize the platforms to create brand experiences that are valuable enough to the consumer that they will take the step to provide you access to them directly - not through the rented connection.

Re: What Top 10 Do Want to See?

Angus - unfortunately our clients don't make any dumb clients... well not the ones that read Adjoke :)

Re: Looking back and forward

If you look at the majority of the advertising in the market I believe he is correct. It is not art. Imagine if the talented art director that is relegated to designing POP invested the 28 hours into an actual piece of art? The artisitc value of the two endeavors would not even be close.

That being said we have featured a lot of incredible and very artistic advertising on AdJoke over the years. I believe that designing brand experiences will allow creatives the opportunity to truly create something that can be seen as art and appreciated. If we elevate our industry beyond what we currently lower ourselves to on a regular basis and deliver a honest brand experience the craft of advertising may one day be appreciated as art.

Re: Trimming the bush to make the tree look taller.

The big difference is that the commercial you are mentioning was full of really bad innuendos (which I thoroughly enjoy) and had great music.

The other difference is that commercial wasn't a "how to" trim you junk for women. Come on they got away with saying "all that is left for me to see is tulips..." . How can you not appreciate that humour?

And at the same time I did write the "Can you spell CANNES LION?" title with a thick layer of sarcasm. To anyone interested the post referenced can be found here. Enjoy.
http://adjoke.blogspot.com/...

I would have made the same comment if I posted a "How to trim your bush" video by Gillete - it would have also been something I never thought I would have posted. But to your point I probably would have posted it with a little more enthusiasm.

As always I appreciate the comments Emma.

Re: 3 reasons I dislike Twitter

Emma - That is a great idea. Anyone with less than 50 updates and over 500 followers is suspect.
