I've been hitting up various forums that tackle this exact situation and have what I consider to be an almost fix.

The Computer to get is :

Asus N550JV :
4GB Dedicated Graphics, 8 to 16 GB Ram, 4th Gen i7 Quad Core processor and 15.6 inch 10 point Multi-Touch Capacitive Display.

The only thing it is missing is the pen.

The notebook is well built so that you can turn it around to have the screen where keyboard normally goes and keyboard of cause where the display normally goes.. giving you a 15.6 inch multi-touch surface. key is to keep the keyboard at 90 degrees to the display so it's weight does not put stress onto the hinge. the hinge is well built though being the full length of the display nearly.

So to solve the final piece to the puzzle and provide a device that has way more power for the affordable price of $1400 including shipping (Australian Dollars that is)

1. Leap Motion .. they have an app that will allow you pressure sensitivity in Photoshop though it's not too accurate from reviews I've read it does at least give this option.... cost including the hardware and app = approx $110.00 USD

2. Adonit or JaJa.. both companies claim that a Windows solution is in the ToDo list yet neither have stepped up to produce it yet. The more pressure we put on them the sooner we will get our pen. (Both are around $100 USD)

3. Pressure Pen.. this is an open source project.. and they are looking for someone to port the drivers over to work with Windows.. I've contacted them to see if they can help me to work at this with others.. no response yet.

4. iPen 2.. This pen does NOT work with any display other than the iMac .. though it might.. the developer just doesn't want to say it will when it won't as every display is different.. but if it does work with the display on the n550.. we're in business for a price of $150 USD approx. plus shipping

5. Adobe are in the process of manufacturing a pen that does EXACTLY what we want though it will likely only work with Adobe Photoshop lol.. but hey it's better than nothing if the price is right.. it could work good enough to get you up and running.. Project Mighty is it's name if memory serves me well.

6. Wacom have released a software driven 2048 levels of pressure pen for IOS devices... uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect and guess what the n550 comes with Bluetooth 4.0 so the only thing stopping it from working is the fact that Wacom are not porting their Windows Pressure driver to work with the device.

it's pure marketing BS and as soon as someone releases a Windows driver hack / port that makes the pen compatible it will be one of the leading options.. right up there with the ipen 2 (assuming we can find a way to make it work with the display) estimated price is $99 USD at the moment plus shipping

So in summary there are a lot of hopeful projects in the works with very real chances of being "The One".. it's just a waiting game and if you are able to get pressure pen sensitivity on a device with the specs as I listed for under $1600.00 AUD.. it is literally the best thing on the market and probably will be for the next 3 or so years unless tablet manufacturers kick Wacom's butt for making their hardware so expensive to incorporate into devices they make. Dedicated Graphics is a MUST for any serious work.. do not be fooled by the rubbish reviews out there.. Shared GPU or those Integrated Chips.. just don't cut serious professional 3D and 2D work.

Also, you definitely want a Quad Core at your disposal.. most of the devices that offer Wacom built in hardware only provide dual core if they do have dedicated graphics.

Hope this helps others and am happy if we can get more support.. I would recommend keeping up pressure on Addonit or JaJa to support Windows 7/8. I think that if they can .. they will be our best bet to get up and running.. though the iPen 2 does have the advantage of pinpoint tracking.. freedom from capacitive display and angle tracking as well.. just got to wait till it's released and test to see if it fits the display... cables on it are a little cumbersome but not the end of the world.

Re: E3 2013: The little things that matter (part 2): Mag II Gun

I'll try this email too as I am having the exact same problem

Re: GTA 5 PC Port Impressions

That mouse input lag is real and a true issue. I've been in convs with Razer to see if they can do anything to fix it their end cause the "FIX" of using Windows mode for me don't work I just get terrible stutter.

Have a ticket with Rockstar as well but that has yet to get any real response. They need to give us proper mouse movement without this lag and rubbish because you can't play or even call this a PC game if you can't use PC INPUT to play it!!

On RAW you get a lag effect where the crosshair is playing constant "catch up"
In Direct Input you get a sota floating effect where it picks up speed and doesn't quite go 1:1 with where your physical mouse is moving.

on Windows mode you get the Stutter which s probably the worst to try and play with out of all 3.

Re: Windows holographic platform for Microsoft HoloLens unveiled

Well... ***they kinda did a live release right then and there for anyone attending that presentation. I'm not fully sure why Microsoft went with Unity over UDK 4 though considering Unity doesn't provide full access to the suite of tools for free like UE4 which means that there will likely be more developers working with UE4 than Unity.

Perhaps it's not that simple considering that Steam have VICE and support UE4 which is available directly through their online store whilst Unity are slightly orphaned. Hopefully that isn't the case though as I'm more interested in what the Unreal Engine has to offer than Unity. Last build of Unity I worked with produced sloppy shaders and there was no way to script using logic blocks without owning 3rd party software and even then it didn't allow you to do what can be achieved with Blueprints.

Re: Fans React To Bring Me The Horizon’s New Track ‘Drown’ – Do They Love It Or Hate It?

Yep Drown is fucken shit and even the band knows it : http://www.digitalspy.com.a...

Fucken cocksmockers that go on about how they love this sound and want more of it will need to look for a new band because based on that interview.. They really go for that kind of thing.

Also, it's pretty rare that I leave a font unmodified anyway regardless of what it is and that can also be said for Papyrus.

I would recommend that when you design, don't focus too much on which fonts are "cool" or not but instead consider improving on them by making alterations to the base fonts so they better suit the needs of your clients.

There aren't many designers I know who rely purely on unmodified fonts when they are producing logo style design work for their clients. If you don't already do that.. then I couldn't recommend progressing to doing this more strongly.

Re: Hatred’s release date trailer’s cop killing makes me uneasy

Is there something wrong with people killing virtual entities in a game? Why do we have to "make light" of murder for it to be socially acceptable? It is what it is no matter what brush you try to paint it with and I'm comfortable with that principle in a game like this.

The moment we see a game like this enter the realm of first person with 100% IK rigs for hands as well as legs for use with VR equipment... perhaps then we will start to see mental degradation of the end user but whilst it is a 3rd party we are having commit these acts on our behalf, we won't see this translate into reality easily.

When we have the technology at a consumer affordable price point for the masses to first hand commit these acts in a fully immersive virtual world we will have problems psychologically where what happens in the game can easily leak into the real world if that makes sense.

As it stands though there is no key difference between GTA, Postal or Hatred to me because in all cases your victims beg for their lives and whimper as you mercilessly erase them. Postal 2 was probably more violent than the new GTA 5 game though because in postal when you severed a head, it came clean off the body and could be kicked or urinated on but in GTA 5 dead bodies remain in 1 piece... no giblets :(

Re: 5 Reasons Why Fallout 4 Shouldn't Have Co-Op Multiplayer

The people who are against fallout multiplayer lack innovative thinking. Why is it so hard to conceive a gameplay experience where you have a lot of players who can band together or stay on their own (dayZ). well there goes points 1 and 2...

3 vats well...why can't VATS become a more natural and dynamic implementation? Even in Fallout 3+ you don't need to use VATS to kill but it can help land a shot. Off the top of my head why couldn't this be resolved by having a preferential system where you pre-vat priority for shots? There are a multitude of ways in which this whole task can be tackled including the removal of VATS.

To try and claim it was the backbone of the entire fallout series is a lie. Fallout 3 can be completed just fine without using VATS and it feels more organic doing so. I'd like to see progression and new innovations that work in a multiplayer context which can bring back some of the other original fallout concepts in a new way.

As an example, consider GTA 5 when you kill someone and they request a Deathmatch, it now enables you and that person to go head to head. Why couldn't fallout recognize a conflict and create a visible radius of colour and anyone inside the colour after the timer counts down will enter "Advanced Combat" mode where you have movement points and all those original combat mechanics from the first fallout.

You can try to get outside of the combat "zone" just like in the original fallout games (1 and 2) or stay and fight to be the last survivor.

To stay relying on an old relic such as VATS without considering ways of upgrading the interactivity to suit multiple players strikes me as backward and lacking in vision.

4. You can have multiple main characters and you can have a game environment that reacts to players based on their actions and choices. (many games have done this well). By designing the rewards or outcomes of various quests to suit a multiplayer experience this problem of a single main character can be further overcome.

e.g. You have a den of Raiders and a quest is to take them out.. you go there and kill a bunch of raiders and kill off the leader... a new leader to the Raiders is elected and takes over or even better yet.. the group that offered a reward to take them out moves in and occupies that territory now. They get power hungry and abuse the nearby town so new players take out them and so the loop goes with new groups re-filling the spot. just an example made up on the spot to show that with some real thought put in this entire situation would be removed and solved to suit a flourishing multiplayer experience.

5. I think if they are to try and tack on multiplayer to a game that has not been designed for it .. this is a bad idea. I wouldn't mind if they made some basic Fallout Deathmatch multiplayer where players can set up "arenas" and battle in isolated parts of a map.. think BF3 how it uses the same map but if you leave the battle zone you are killed etc.. and depending on the gamemode type as to the size of the battle zone etc. That could work well but to try have a storymode style thing .. nah that wouldn't work at all if the game wasn't designed with this in mind.

The reason I would be in favour of a Deathmatch Multiplayer using a BF3 style approach is that it would provide the modding community a Network Infrastructure to extend the story mode of the game with. The mod community could take all the provided game assets and create a proper multiplayer experience using the principles outlined in this post or others that have more than 3 seconds thought backing them to create an awesome MP exploration experience.

Other games that provide the option of feeling alone or banding together risking being backstabbed : RUST, ARK, DayZ, 7Days2Die etc. There are a lot of others out there too and each game can be enjoyed as an isolated lone wolf or with some friends banding together but never knowing when someone will turn on the group.

I think part of the fallout world is the concept of TRUST. Even in fallout 3 you could get pets and other npc's which travelled with you so the game wasn't really a "lone wolf" experience back then either.. some people just choose to block this out.

If anything, the addition of real players into the environment will enhance the risk factor as these are real people who may choose to go rogue on you at any moment. Are they genuine friends or just opportunists.. are they working with a larger slaver guild and secretively leading you back to the slaver camp??

There are 3 sides to a coin, the way things turn out all depends on how it is handled.

Re: Windows 10 is great – but it won’t stop the PC from dying and taking Microsoft with it

Here's the thing the article writer overlooked. Sure desktops for business purposes may be on the decline and when we introduce a desktop ready Windows 10 to 2016 smartphones I think that will be a new business model for corporations globally.

All employees will have their pc as their phone and can take work home or wherever and can also use the new work pc for business calls etc since it is their phone as well.

So the usage may still default to a desktop environment even if the device no longer resembles a tower.

Worth mentioning that there are strong reports of 10-core smarphones scheduled for 2016 and that since Windows 10 is a Microsoft product.. Windows and Microsoft won't be going anywhere but into more devices and usage environments.

The multi-device crossover being accomplished with Windows 10 is like nothing the world has seen before where phones, consoles, desktops, laptops, tablets and new AR peripherals are all running the same operating system.

Android somewhat did this but Android OS is not a real contender for business or extensive education compared to Windows OS. Serious business software solutions still develop for Linux, Mac and Windows and of those 3 Windows takes the biggest slice of cake hands down.

I don't actually like the thought of Windows/Microsoft holding a monopoly in market shares to this extent. Reality is.. this is the most likely outcome when you provide your latest operating system for so many devices and release it free of charge...

Apple are too niche and their devices don't correctly "talk" together or execute the same applications. A mobile and desktop variant are required etc. Android can do this but again you don't see big business defaulting to Android for a number of reasons including the bulk of software support resides in the pockets of Windows.

Linux is pretty much in the same boat as Android (not surprising as android is the child of linux so to speak). Even Apple don't have a strong commercial software industry backing them like Windows which is due to the tight restrictions that are forced on Mac and IOS developers compared to their competition.

So yeah TL:DR :
I don't think the pc is dying and Microsoft definitely aren't going anywhere soon. Almost the exact opposite seems to be on the menu depending on how well Windows 10 devices can manage to find their way into the hands of the masses. Once adopted, the shift away from this technology will become more expensive so reduced prices on initial devices supporting Win 10 plus the free OS would do well in the long run if market monopoly is the intention of Microsoft.

Re: Fallout 4 release date, news, rumours and trailers

I think the direction that Fallout 1->2-> was heading was towards a cooperative experience. They were kinda doing this a little around the Fallout Tactics stage but for some reason.. we saw Fallout 3+ backtrack to a Solo experience.

I am hoping that the new Fallout 4 will take the step forwards. The possible opportunity was hinted at when the discussion of Settlements came up and it was added (this is all optional).

That line, this should be optional has often been applied to those in favour of including a multiplayer experience with Fallout so who knows... could be the way towards the future!

I know that having MP Settlements in F4 would lend towards the right foundations.. player 2 player trading between settlements. Storymodes that run using NPC's at either a Default settlement or that are unique to your player grown settlement if you Opt-In for multiplayer.

Re: 916134

Your first mistake was buying a computer that is released by software company and not a dedicated hardware company. Their device does not include dedicated graphics so you can wipe out any usage beyond basic stuff like text editing, maybe paint and light photoshop work.. light video editing etc. Anything that delves into heavy 3D will eat dirt and suffer.

Also, if you had been to the store previously and knew they were terrible.. why didn't you demand Kaleb provide you with an alternative or in fact contact him whilst you are at their store to explain the situation. Shouldn't have to.. but then again I have had similar experiences with all brands of products .. this isn't a product related issue either.. this is a customer service issue related strongly to a store that sells the equipment and not the actual manufacturers directly.

Apple products are going to make those who buy them happy and do you know why? Anyone dumb enough to spend MORE money on hardware that provides LESS power per $ vs alternatives will be pretty content if "they hit power button and computer work" Forget that it has a limited provision of software applications and that any software you do get will have weaker hardware powering it so you are likely to experience more hardware failures or slower performance results...

I genuinely doubt things like that cross the minds of apple consumers. Also apple products don't work better than their alternatives just because they use proprietary components.. it just means you are locked in to 1 option for where you get all hardware. but meh logic isn't a strong suit to an apple consumer so no point taking that road of discussion. Logic falls to the wayside the moment you become willing to spend more money for an inferior product just because someone at a counter selling it was nicer to you.

Re: Best 2-in-1 laptops: top 5 hybrid laptops reviewed

the ones in that list are garbage if you are after anything with some degree of processing power hell even my old Lenovo x230t has better specs then most of these and it's a dinosaur from 2013! It packs the i7 dual core haswell with 16gb ram the hd 4500, comes with 500gb hdd and is a convertible tablet pc with a wacom pressure sensitive pen and a bunch of other stuff.. long story short being IMHO the tablet industry is garbage currently and if the above list is the best they have to offer.. there's little point in spending.

We need to get some serious machines in here with a penabled display, Dedicated GTX980+ graphics, 32GB ram, 15"+ iris display.

I think the best solution would be to have an overpowered base with most of that and then a lightweight removable display to avoid hinges. User can loosen and tighten the display supports to adjust the angle that the monitor would sit at when you Dock it to the base.

When undocked the removable display unit simply has to process the wireless signals to the base station and send input etc so all the heavy lifting remains on that back-end .. I mean in all seriousness what we could and should start seeing are some desktop configurations that pair with a penabled display unit or better yet allow us to use penabled windows 10 tablets as a low latency display.. options could include Li-Fi (light based wireless) or even a tether cable would be acceptable to me.. provided it could also function using regular wifi if you want to disconnect and use 5ghz wifi signal for minimal latency or something.. perhaps a dongle dedicated to com between the 2 devices whatever dont' care how it's done but the more i think of it the more THIS should be what we see.

Re: Fallout Shelter Android Game: Bethesda Says Release Date Is August (Here's Why It's Worth The Wait)

To be clear this has been a deliberate and TIMED delay regardless of what they say. I think it's safe to say IOS is going to become something the ignorant purchase.

akall_luy is a classic IOS consumer though .. I can see why Apple get away with slapping price tags on products that Android get for free.

Regarding ease of development, sure there are fewer aspect ratios and hardware considerations to think about when developing your apps for IOS, however aspect ratios can mostly be avoided with basic design principles being taken into consideration.

See here for more information : http://www.webvanta.com/cou...

At the end of the day what Bethesda have done can only be considered a demonstration of minimal to no forward thinking deployed on products they release by hard-coding aspect ratios and IOS exclusive hardware features.

So if the excuse really is.. they purely designed for one mobile OS they demonstrate that they are not a capable game developer and should probably not be designing content.

...or more realistically...

This isn't the case and they are being shady as f*** with some dirty business deals going down not disclosed by either Apple or Bethesda and covered up by blatant lies because they did consider BASIC design principles and are simply holding off on the Android export as a result of the shady dealings.

Re: We now know when Fallout Shelter should arrive on Android

profitability as a figure vs popularity as a device are 2 different things.

The app was promoted as being Free to Play so popularity should be the variable we look towards primarily...

Also, once Android starts shipping on sub-par devices for higher price tags than competing device platforms.. I think any consumers still purchasing those devices will make a great target consumer who is willing to spend on unnecessary and overpriced purchases.

The fact people purchase the IOS device, puts them into a demographic as "ideal consumers" who pull the trigger on things that perform sub par on a
$ <--> Performance ratio compared to alternatives. These people are willing to buy without performing extensive research and are content with the use of a device based on branding and marketing efforts exclusively.

This is often a pre-cursor to having a disposable income which is another ideal trait to find in consumers.

It's no surprise that they currently have a higher profit margin as a percentage value per user of that OS type and why commercial products would initially target the IOS market preferentially..however we are talking about a Free to Play app which doesn't fall into that same classification.

Re: We now know when Fallout Shelter should arrive on Android

Well it shouldn't be a strong argument to give any grace period because doing that would imply that Android users are not spending a significant slice on IAPs as well.

Not releasing for both Operating Systems is just cutting your profits down with no obvious benefits unless some under-the-table deal went through because as you identify, Unity can export out for both platforms at the click of a button.

Re: We now know when Fallout Shelter should arrive on Android

Here is something to consider... Fallout 4 is being released as a NON-Multiplayer experience... let that sink in..

You don't need to be online to play it.. so how hard do you really think it will be for this to emerge from some location on the internet "free"?

When you deliberately mess with a market and lie to them you are not behaving in a manner that says, "I'm treating you with respect so I deserve to have products released treated with respect".

My opinion of Bethesda from the "stunt" of delaying the Android release and making it seem like it takes extra effort to accomplish this task.. plus releasing a modern game with absolutely no multiplayer support makes the entire company seem dated and ill-equipped for modern business standards.

Fallout 4 will still get a ton of sales and they'll make a ton of cash from Fallout Shelter IAPs no doubt.. but imagine how much MORE they would have made if the game (Fallout 4) were online and if they hit both IOS and Android at the same time for Shelter.

The only people to blame are the same people releasing this content and deliberately promoting misinformation.

By the way as a consumer.. we get the privilege of choosing what we buy and don't buy.. we get the freedom of expressing these needs by selective purchasing. A content producer's goal is to target a specific market of consumers and address our needs.

To think that this business model should be inverted is illogical.

Re: We now know when Fallout Shelter should arrive on Android

Unfortunately it seems that most of the people replying have little clue to what is involved in app development.

Most are unlikely to have any level of degree in business management since the concept of catering products to suit consumers is being overlooked.

The only logical reason for an IOS exclusive early release was that IOS owners make for better consumers...and even then it ignores that Android users also make IAPs so cutting out that demographic is still short changing your company profits significantly.

By any standards this is a stupid business move.. good businesses make decisions that earn maximum profits from a product.

The only way this was a good business decision is if Apple did an under-the-table deal that offset the predicted losses Bethesda would make from a dual OS (IOS and Android) release at launch.

Re: Bethesda Explains The Only Way To Play Fallout 4 Multiplayer

The more I read coming out in media releases etc by Bethesda the more I am starting to really grow a disliking towards them as a company.

Re: Fallout Shelter Android Game: Bethesda Says Release Date Is August (Here's Why It's Worth The Wait)

People who would care are those that wanted to give the free content a go but can't.

They can't try it out because of operating system discrimination and under-the-table dealings which in turn changed something that was "free" to something that is ONLY free.. if... you meet specific criteria.. which is no longer free as free implies there are no pre-requisites to obtain it.

Being entitled has nothing to do with describing what has transpired to be a subjectively, alleged corrupt dealing between Bethesda and Apple. Not that any direct reasons were listed other than the game being initially developed for IOS, which knowing this was done in Unity implies there's no technical reasons why it couldn't have been released for Android at launch also.

Business is business I agree and so being in business means you have 2 objectives that are co-dependent :

1. Earn as much money with the least effort required.

2. Ensure that your customers are happy with the way you are conducting business.

If either falters. you are no longer in business because without customers you can't earn money and without money you can't conduct business as running a business has overhead costs etc.

This is a classic scenario of biting the hand that feeds which is essentially the point being made by those who understand the process involved in releasing multi-OS content from dev software like Unity.

Bethesda have made it seem like they are "working" on the android release as if it needs to be re-coded when the reality is.. the code is re-usable for export onto various OS from Unity without 3 months worth of alterations...so someone is allegedly fibbing which in turn makes for unhappy customers.. which breaks one of the critical rules in business.

Re: Why is Android Still the Second Platform Developers Work On?

I think long term this should become a solid approach.. what I'm more looking towards now is Windows 10 phones taking the market over or at least having a strong potential for this to occur :

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

The advantages :

1. Ability to run Android and IOS Apps
2. OS gets updated directly from Microsoft (no middleware)
3. OS can run Windows 10 Desktop Apps on the Phone so owners can replace workstations with Win10 phones that dock to a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Those 3 aspects alone will make development easier, app support a non issue-finally and market share increased by both companies wanting to cut costs on work-stations + business phones (by combining them into 1 device) and in general.

There isn't a lot of talk about Win10 yet but by the time we are in 2017 I would suspect this to be a big player in the mobile phone market.

It will simply come down to 2 factors :
How well Win 10 is able to handle Android Apps and how many developers start producing for Win 10 universal applications vs individual desktop and mobile versions.

A key advantage to running a consistent OS with strict manufacturer specs (devices running this OS must be able to do x, y and z... etc) will be the ease of application development. It may also work out that since all Win 10 phones meet regulated feature requirements, Android apps can be designed with this in mind so developing for android on Win10 may become a thing.

Mostly speculation for now but we will see what happens and just how likely or unlikely these things are to occur once we get the products out there and features are put to the test. Till then this 2017 timeframe is based on everything going as Microsoft claim it will smoothly. (doesn't usually happen IRL).

Either way, as a developer it is a nice prospect to think about.. getting to develop for more stable platforms that don't have manufacturer content injected into the OS but instead run as apps on the devices.

Might even make Android adjust their distribution model to work like this .. but that would require a minimum spec regulation and then have enhanced functionality for above spec devices extended through app-store hosted drivers/software (things like galaxy note series pressure pens etc)

App developers who want to make content that works with these 3rd party drivers could then access the extended function libraries if the manufacturers made them accessible etc.. gives more control over enhanced functionality to the manufacturer that includes it in their hardware.

Manufacturers would then be able to work off shared libraries for specific enhancements to provide easier driver support to 3rd party app developers wanting to include support for the hardware.

And of cause there's no reason why Google can't also include default drivers for things like that into the OS to establish an industry standard that manufacturers can use if certain enhanced features/functions become more common / expected.

e.g. Camera2 API should not be left to the device manufacturer to enable or disable but instead should have been enabled by default and worked in such a way that it supported hardware in devices intelligently. aka. if the hardware can handle X feature then associated functions with X feature will work.

3rd party developers (including the device manufacturer) can then include basic checks to see which functions are available for the hardware running on the current android device.
