These animals, tragically, may be the last of the Southern Resident Orcas seen on Earth. Every possible effort must be made to save them. Constant harassment and noise caused by thoughtless humans must be stopped.

My best wishes for success in curtailing the boat traffic and also getting the Whale Watch Companies to become more realistic regarding our marine life.

Re: Orca Relief says more whale-watch protests to come - Journal of the San Juans

billbailey, you simply do not get it. If you have read all the information as you claim, in no way would you classify Paul Watson as violent, destructive, or breaking any laws. The actions taken by other groups may be very different from those of SSCS and you cannot paint everyone with the same brush. Your attack on Watson is unjustified and untrue.

You obviously dismiss all information regarding the serious and deadly situation our Planet is in, caused by human interference. We must take action to change how we live, clean up the Earth, and stop over-using the precious little resources left. It may be too late to reverse the process. Just how do you assume the Planet will recover from the rapid destruction caused by humans without a change in our way of life?

Who you think you are matters little, except to yourself, obviously. You still have not replied to questions regarding just what you are doing to help save the Planet and its creatures, including humans. Tell us, we are all waiting to hear .........

Re: Orca Relief says more whale-watch protests to come - Journal of the San Juans

billbailey, you are the one who is missing the point here. What are you so confused about? This was all clearly explained. Why don't you do some suggested reading so you are not so muddled? Are you afraid you might learn something? Or are you so threatened that your biased opinions will suddenly change when you discover how serious the problems are which we all face on this Planet and that your great grand-children will not have clean air to breathe or water to drink?

Your issues are with yourself and your own feelings of anger if you are so upset about what environmentalists are trying to accomplish to bring some order to this insane World. To use the analogy of ramming a car if it is in the wrong lane is stupid. Watson clearly has been and is following laws. Read about it. Sea Shepherd is not breaking laws, they are enforcing laws which Govts should be doing, but do not because of lack of concern or corruption. No one is speaking of inciting violence except you, SSCS deals with law-breakers who are violent to begin with.

Paul Watson is an Educator. He has served as and still is lecturing at Universities all over the World, and is Keynote Speaker at countless Events. Sea Shepherd is constantaly working on Outreach and Education programs to raise awareness about the dire problems we are facing with loss of our marine creatures and Oceans. The Oceans are dying in our time. If the Oceans die - we die. I know you do not believe this, but get yourself educated to the real facts of life and what is happening to our Planet.

And you are wondering what to eat for dinner while species of all description are disappearing from the face of the Earth? This is what takes up your time? Use your time to learn about what is going on, not griping about people who are making sacrifices to change things for the better.

What are you doing to contribute to the benefit of our Planet? Anything? Are you doing anything to help clean up Puget Sound which has become a sewer? Are you volunteering to save and rehabilitate injured and sick wildlife? Are you taking steps to change your life to work on conservation and environmental matters which would benefit all creatures and save the Planet? Or, would you rather write your silly complaining blogs in opposition to the people who ARE desperately trying to do something worthwhile.

Yes, we all have to take action to clean up our act which has been tainting and destroying our Earth for the past Century, particularly the last half. We all need to contribute and not waste time moaning and criticizing those who are actually out there working to make a difference.

Your last sentence is insulting and ignornant and shows how little you have learned or care to.

Re: Orca Relief says more whale-watch protests to come - Journal of the San Juans

billbailey, Capt. Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, in 32 years of operation, have never caused injury or death to an animal or human. The Japanese Whaling fleet has had three deaths of crewmembers in the Antarctic while hunting and slaughtering Whales. Japan kills Whales in the Southern Marine Sanctuary and within Territorial Zones. There is a Moratorium against Whaling which Japan (and other countries) refuses to recognize nor do they recognize the So. Marine Sanctuary as just that - A SANCTUARY ! Japan issues Permits for a self-appointed number of Whales - 1,000 - to be slaughtered in the Antarctic, some of these animals are on the endangered species list. In addition, they also slaughter Whales in the North Pacific after the Antarctic campaign. Japan kills over 25,000 Dolphins annually. Iceland, Norway, and Denmark are also killing Whales.

The SSCS Mandate is to assume a law enforcement role as provided by The United Nations World Charter For Nature, and CITES section 21 under the heading of implementations as the Society's authority to act on behalf of international conservation law.

Watson and his crew have never been convicted of any crime. They have been accused and called many names by those who oppose the all Volunteer organization and their work. Still, they continue working to stop the Canadian Harp seal pup killings of up to 325,000 baby seals annually, the Namibian seal killings, Shark Finning, Poaching, the Danish Faroe Is. Pilot Whale slaughter, Tahji Dolphin slaughter, and all other illegal Marine activities.

Sea Shepherd also works with Govts. such as the Ecuadorian Govt and Galapagos police. They have had a ship on patrol in the Galapagos Marine Park since 2000 to stop shark-finning and poaching activities. If you have seen "Sharkwater" then you would see SSCS in action and realize how dangerous their work really is.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society continues to grow rapidly, gaining Members and support from the World over who agree with them. So, billbailey, how do you account for so much support of an all Volunteer organization? You can't argue with the numbers. People are tired of signing Protest lists and negotiations which go on endlessly and do not accomplish a thing while animals die, waiting to be saved by paid negotiators. People want direct Action!
See: www.seashepherd.org

Re: Orca Relief says more whale-watch protests to come - Journal of the San Juans

The majority of problems associated with interference/harassment of Orcas, esp. the SR Community, is undeniably due to private boats rather than commercial Whale Watching vessels. However, the bigger picture is the fact that there are far too many commercial Whale Watch boats on the water now. Limits should have been placed on licencing of WW vessels years ago. There is far too much boat traffic in general in the Orcas' habitat areas. These animals need more free area in San Juan and Puget Sound where no boat traffic occurs so they can persue what precious little prey exists.
Sadly, their food sources are very scarce now, and even worse, the waters they use are highly polluted. On top of all this to contend with, they have engine noises and human interference with their hunting for prey and communicating with other Orcas. Land-based Whale Watch sites should be established instead of allowing such an overload of boat traffic.

More education of the general public is needed regarding the fact that these are very rare and unique Orcas, unlike any others in the World. They communicate in family dialects which no other Orcas speak, have specific food needs, and have families who remain together for life. If they disappear off the Planet, an entire "civilization" is gone forever, never to be seen or heard again!

The same applies for the Northern Resident Community of Orcas. Leave all of them alone and stop persuing them, in both private and Commercial boats. The time has come to stop.
