I believe Bernie Vaughn re-did it, and have to go back to my mother's home and find the 45 which was published by TIFF Records near Zanesville, Ohio, and see who it says it is sung by. Anyway, I eventually picked up playing the guitar as a youngster back in the early 70's and sang this song around many a camp fire since, and soon some open mike nights (I'm 39, just now getting into playing publicly, whereas my father's side of the family had all kinds of gigs). At any rate, I always thought the line I quoted above was actually:

"I felt 'bout two feet tall as I walked by down the hall"

It fits the cadence better... as in "I felt....'bout two feet tall...... as I walked...back down...the hall".

Sometimes I throw an initial "well" in there, as in "Well I felt..."
