The name of that bar would be Washington Commons in Prospect Heights. One of my buddies is a bartender there (and at 4th Ave) It's a rad space, but not nearly the beer selection that some people seem to be going on about. You know a bar has a "good" beer selection when they have a stout on tap during the summer.

Some of us just can't get behind drinking 17 types of hefeweizen in one nite..

When I first took a tour of PS I instantly fell in love, and a few months later moved here. I however, had no idea that I would be sharing the frustrations (albeit easily overcome with a bit of effort) that the single demographic seem to have here.

I know it's just generalization, but I also feel all I ever see are moms, dads, and their progeny. I always wonder where the single people are, but then I see it as almost a good thing because me being single helps me to have more time to focus on my work.

sigh.

Hey everyone, I have a morning ritual that I need to share.

I call it ‘the terminator’.

First I crouch down in the shower in the classic ‘naked terminator traveling through time’ pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless cyborg badass.
The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy.

It goes like this: We're all entitled to do whatever the hell we want in our own time and space. However, once we enter the realm of the living and breathing, we must abide by a social rule of conduct.

For example, if John has a rare disease where he punches things and people often and randomly, he has every right to let those fists of fury fly in his home. When he's out and about you better believe he needs those glorious kid silencers strapped to himself or it's not going to be too long before he accidentally picks a fight with Goolio the rabid Long Islander.

Moral of the story? Wear deodorant or you might accidentally get murdered.

As someone who enjoys a few nightcaps, I will be traipsing along merrily in the evening on my way home and often times I take President from 4th ave to 5th ave, and while I'm not scared of rats, I do get startled almost every time by the random scattering of the Secret of Nimh convention that happens when I pass the trash bags in front of Cabana Bar.

I haven't been in the slope for that long and have yet to find a good burger here and would love to know anyone's opinion.
I find myself going to Back Forty in the LES often and getting their grass-fed burger with rosemary fries (the best burgers AND fries in the city in my opinion).
However, I'd like to find a place around here that isn't so... in the city.

As much as I love Bierkraft when I found out they were trying to get a liquor license but not extend their hours of operation it brought a moment of contemplation where I wondered just WHO would sit there drinking expensive beers during the daytime hours by themselves.

As someone who actively takes care of himself in what he consumes and is frustrated when people are apathetic about themselves and get offended about it as their defense mechanism, I really hate it when people call each other or themselves "thick" or "normal" or "big boned." Those words are too often used as scapegoats for those who consume large quantities of HFC's, sodium and fats.

According to the BMI standardized index, from what that picture can tell us, that woman would be overweight. This is not saying she is ugly as that is all in the eye of the beholder, and that is not what I am getting at, but she is by definitions OF HEALTH, overweight, and does not fall in the normal-sized lady category.

I'm not trying to stir up controversy, I just had to note this because people's lack of caring for themselves is really sad for others to see and trying to defend it does not help.

I am another person that will not go to the Court St. theatre. If it's a major release I make the trek up to Lincoln Center just for the cleanliness and civility of it's patrons.

One of my friends calls the Court St. location the "Interactive Theatre" because the clientele who frequent it cannot just sit and enjoy the movie but have to interact with it in every obnoxiously and inane manner possible, including fights by baby mamas that have no relationship to the film.

Best theatres in nyc in my humble opinion are the Angelika or Sunshine for independents and Kips Bay or Lincoln Center for wide releases.

The strange thing about human body is that the large majority of the population actually doesn't need to go to the gym in order to stay within their body type's recommended healthy BMI range.

The biggest part about staying "healthy" is just eating right. No silly diets, just following a few basic guidelines.

1. Eating recommended portions (most americans eat a good 2-3 times the recommended portion)

2. Eating smaller meals more frequently (the body reacts to 1-big-meal-a-day diet by thinking it's coming into a season of starvation so kicks into a calorie saving mode)

3. Read ALL of the labels for the things you buy and consume and avoid very bad ingredients no matter what, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), Sodium (Salt), MSG, Cholesterol, Calories, Fat, Artificial Colors and Flavors, etc. (This means no soda which is a huge culprit in most people's weight issues)

4. Staying happy. Now this one is easier said than done, but as long as we strive to be happy it's better than nothing. (Weight has scientific correlations with your mood)

Doing these few simple things with a nice walk every day is all you need.
