I don't have any homes behind us as we live on a slope overlooking the city. It helps me refocus.

Re: Stick a Fork In It - Edwin Goei - Huntington Beachs Peddler of Ice Cream of the Future Closes

Businesses will open and businesses will close. One of the things that determine the will withstand the test of times is the passion of the business owners. Once in a while you hear about the mom & pop diner whose owners will not sell to the bigger names, as generations of customers’ families stop by for a meal and a conversation. Perhaps you’ve heard of the barber shop owner who will not give up seeing the satisfied loyal patrons, while nationwide hair salons pop up all around.

I’m happy to see the Fountain Valley Dippin’ Dots, owned and operated by Dan and Debbie Tesla the past five years continue to bring Dots love to my family. We can get these same Dots still at the bounce houses in South OC near where we live, at the Discovery Science Center after our kids work through the experiments, at various elementary schools’ fundraisers in my neighborhood, at birthday parties … as Dan and Debbie continue to meet the growing demands for Dots. However, it’s always a cozy feeling to be able to have gatherings by friends at the Fountain Valley Dippin’ Dots, as that location offers an inviting ambiance.

It’s nice to hear that Dippin’ Dots continue to spread cold cheer one dot at a time. In Orange County, my family and friends are pleased to know that the Fountain Valley Dippin’ Dots continues to spread that cheer five years and counting. I can recall a recent front page feature by The OC Register, getting feedback from Dan and Debbie on how while many OC businesses are closing, their Fountain Valley store and business model is withstanding the peaks and valleys of the tough OC economic climate.

As with the mom & pop diner, or the local barber shop, it’s even more important than ever for patrons and business owners to foster a relationship that will withstand economic trends. People like people who are like them. Kind-hearted business owners attract kind-hearted patrons, and you never turn your back on your friends. Fly-by-night attitudes attract such clientele, and will deter long-term outlook. Sincere relationships create a nurturing environment. While I’m definitely not against nationwide chains, when I find a location that provides an environment I’m comfortable bringing my family to, and putting my name on the line to refer to others, the sincerity of that recommendation is all because the business owners took time to connect with its patrons. I find such camaraderie at the Fountain Valley Dippin’ Dots, with its owners, family, staff and patrons.

With the current warm start to 2011, I know that the sub-zero Dots from Fountain Valley hit the ground running and will continue to warm a lot of hearts this year and the years to come!

Re: Social Media Strategy for Nonprofits: 10 Potential Objectives for Using Social Media

Neal, your points are on target and insightful. In this day and age I'm happy to see you address the "Decrease Expenses" section. At times, non-profits may hold back on efforts to not dilute funds, but understanding the social media avenue to spread awareness and recruit volunteers ...volunteers who probably would not have been reached without the non-profits' use of social media. I'm assisting a non-profit in its infancy stage embark on a huge fund raising campaign, and this article is on point...with perfect timing! Thanks, Neal!

Re: Ideas that I WANT you to steal!

What if...I could help my single friends understand the art of communication in the dating environment? Instead of a Bachelor / Bachelorette setting, I would focus more on how to carry a conversation during the dates...isn't that what the dating process is really about? Ehhhh, what do I know about dating these days, having been married for almost 12 years? Fortunately I shared the idea, and now almost three months in the making (lots of footage shot at different cities), q network may actually carry my show concept. Should the producers can the show before it breathes its first breath, the experience gave me the exposure, as well as the opportunity to work with pros I would never have had! Share!

Re: Stimulate you brain and win a free twitter background!

These are soooo cool :-)

1.
