I signed up about 6 weeks ago (Jan 14th), so I am a Twitter newbie. I too was concerned about Twitter consuming too much time.

This stuff is over my head at the moment. I have been using Twitter about 6 weeks. I consider myself fairly techy, been around computers a long time.

Staying on the cutting edge is more of a challenge.

Hi Tim,

I watched the 11min video for now. EXCELLENT comments, spot on. Don't fear the bread and flip-flops, you can do anything.

We are cruising and living life each and everyday on a sailboat. We survived 11 months with no electricity. Life is good. We do what we want when we want. It's all about TIME and RELATIVE income.

Local vs Online is certainly an issue, but it is a reality today. It happens in ALL markets. I see it in the boating world.

Yes, there is a balance between the two, they both have their place in today's market. Change is unavoidable. Hey, I don't use the Pony Express to deliever mail anymore. ;)

The local wine retailer is in the wrong in your story. Being "NICE" to people is a cost of doing business. I'm sure he also advertises, does he expect a 100% ROI here?

I don't think you will see snow today in New Orleans. However, they did have snow not too long ago! A weird perfect storm front...

Excellent advice Gary. I tell people all the time to "Just Ask!" Similar to your ~ Grab it.

I think peoples lack of ability to do this derives from two main issues. One, no one likes to hear "No" when they ask. You know, the junior-high dance and the boys are afraid to ask the girls to dance... Second is the notion that because someone is successful, famous, rich, they are no longer human. Hey gang, everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time. So people sit on the sidelines and won't "Grab It!"

Like you say Gary, don't stalk people, just ask, just grab it!

Here is to 2010 and grabbing it. Arrr

I am new to this social media stuff. Kinda anyway. I have been around computers since the dark-ages. Jumped on the Internet band wagon right away. Yahoo! Groups and our own Web Sites and blogs. For some odd reason I refused to get on the Social Media bandwagon.

Well, I know have a Twitter Account (July 09) and a FaceBook Account too. I just started a FaceBook Page and a Video Blog/TV Show.

To comment on the content of your video...

This is the next step in the Paradigm Shift. For example, the first step was companies not understanding exactly what they were "selling" to their customers, Rail service companies thinking they were selling rail service when they were actually selling transporation. Along come airlines, oops...

Now it is as you explain in this video. If companies don't interact and listen to their customers,,, oops....

Gary, for me personally, looking back on my high-school years, it was a yin-yang kind of thing. Truthfully, I didn't have a lot of "friends." I wa kind of a loner in this area. However, I was and am a friendly person. I go out of my way to help people. I love to chat with people. I try very hard not to judge/stereotype anyone. I am an open, genuine, transparent guy. I just do not have a lot of close friends.
