That means that if you receive a phone call, the Navigator will lose its connection to its server for the duration of the call."

This would be a huge problem for me. I often receive calls, make calls and listen to my voice mails while driving. So during those calls I would have no GPS navigation? Here I was thinking I would get a Palm Pre and not need my Garmin iQue (a GPS Palm I've been using for about five years) and Samsung A900 phone. So much for that idea! The Pre is not as ideal as I thought. Unfortunately!

Today I was on the phone while starting to head on US 41 towards the Everglades. My call dropped. Due, I thought, to lack of service out in the wild. So I wondered what would happen to my GPS guidance on a cell phone if I lost phone connection. Once back in civilization I called Sprint and got what I thought was a well-informed tech. He told me that the maps are not stored on the phone but that if I chose my destination in advance that I would have the guidance for the entire trip. And I wondered also whether the maps would be zoomable. Well, this article makes clear that that information was incorrect - if you lose connection, you lose GPS guidance and maps. So, phone-based GPS is only usable when one is in an area of phone service. Why would anyone that had used a dedicated GPS device which contained its own maps want to risk being without guidance?
