Great tips Karl! Importing one folder at a time is probably the way to go. Now as soon as Google gives me my IMAP, I'll start importing. Probably one folder a day.

Interestingly, Remember The Milk syncs all your data constantly in the local database, and already auto-detects status. Why Google and Zoho haven't done this, I have no idea.

There's also ScreenshotCaptor from DonationCoder.com, which is free, has a built-in image editor, and will capture (or at least try, depending on settings and what you select) pretty much anything. I've been using it for months. So they make you register for a free registration key, but hey, it's great freeware. I use it for the screenshots on my blog.

I like the bonus item, Chris. Actually, that's not a bad idea. I have accounts everywhere, many at sites I don't even remember. Though it doesn't exactly work if my connection's down, I think something good to do if you're bored would be to check your browser history (Google history if you have it) and look for any sites that require logins. Put a list of all the sites you have accounts with somewhere, perhaps in Google Notebook or (my favorite) a personal MediaWiki installation. I have a page in my personal wiki just for that purpose. Works great! Now if I could only find the time to search out and find the several dozen accounts I haven't listed there yet...

Re bullet 4, my mom is 51, has a degree in electrical engineering from Stanford, has had the necessity of the process explained multiple times, and still insists on clicking the Cancel button when AVG Free tries to update. One would think that she'd listen to me, given all the things I've done (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, etc.)...

That message shows up whenever Gmail's having network trouble or some other problem that causes the service to slow down; it's not limited to delays in the search.
