I feel as though anyone that sits through this painstaking process feels the same way. I just got through with sitting for FAR. I felt pretty confident going into it, but when I came out, I was definitely feeling the burn. I’ve passed BEC and REG, but FAR as I’ve said before is really a beast. What really ticked me off was when a question came up that I did not know the answer too because I was weak on the topic. Knowingly, I would get the question wrong but then two questions later would be a very similar question on the same topic. I would get that one wrong, then a couple of questions later, again, the same question worded a bit differently on the same topic. I know the test is not predetermined and they pull from a test bank based on your performance through the exam, but wouldn’t you think they would give you a chance with a different topic? I don’t know. It’s a long wait to get wave 2 grades. I’ll take the day off tomorrow and then onto AUD. Alright, my pain and agony is out.

Re: CPA Exam Financial General Discussion Thread

Last week of studying for FAR. I think I managed to get the last possible spot to take the test. Either way, theres just too much material, and I'm not feeling confident at all. REG was fine, BEC was fine, but this is just a beast.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

I took Becker for REG and passed with the material they covered. Just remember that most of the learning and knowledge is gained from the time that you put into the material. Becker, along with all other review courses will just guide you in the right direction.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

BEC 76, I'll take it
REG 79

2 down, 2 to go

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

Hey Jeff, we still looking pretty for BEC on Thursday?

Re: CPA Exam Financial General Discussion Thread

So I'm back at it, trying to get motivated for FAR. I've scheduled my exam for what I guess is the last possible chance in this window, August 31st at 4:30pm or so. So I've got about a month, which should be more than enough time considering my only job right now is to pass this exam. The tough part is that I've fallen victim to a lack of motivation. After muscling through REG and BEC, I just have no drive to take on FAR. What certainly does not help is the dryness of the subject matter.

Anyhow, I wanted to get some peoples words of advice, encouragement or stories of what they do to get back on track when they've fallen off their study routine.

What may possibly be worse is that around August 15th I'll get my BEC grade back, if I passed, theres the motivation right there! But if I find out I failed, oh man, thats gonna really blow. Hell and if I don't look at the grade, it'll just be on my mind the whole time.

So throw some advice my way, how should I get back into the FAR material, cause right now, I'm really slacking.

Re: CPA Exam Business Discussion

Well I'm guessing your using a different study program other than Becker, but as for that acronym, its to help you memorize variances, wether favorable or unfavorable.

With PURE, you have "P"rice and "U"sage for direct materials, and "R"ate and "E"fficiency for Direct Labor. For DADS you have "D"ifference * "A"ctual and "D"ifference * "S"tandard. Difference is always equal to SAD, which is "S"tandard - "A"ctual = "D"ifference.

So when you match up

P= D*A
U= D*S
R= D*A
E= D*S

If you use becker, they give you a good understanding of it in the book, if not, then I guess you'll have to settle for mine, or take the class.

Re: CPA Exam Business Discussion

Just got back from Prometric having sat for BEC. I finished with about 30 minutes left on the clock. I wasn't surprised with the layout of the exam having heard from people on this forum and in my becker class with the emphasis on IT. I've read peoples complaints here saying that Becker didn't prepare them with enough IT questions. At first I figured people who complained just didnt study enough. Now me, I study about 5 days a week for 4 - 5 hours a day for a month, I was surprised when I was unable to answer a handful of IT related questions. Some terminology never appeared in my textbook. Thinking about it, maybe those were the questions that the AICPA was testing and did not count towards my grade. Either way, I'm coming out of this exam feeling the same way I did with REG, thinking I failed. (Though with REG, I ended up passing). I guess I'll see in a month when I check my grade, hoping for that 75. Fingers crossed.

Re: CPA Exam Regulation Discussion

Without a doubt I was wondering the same thing for a while. Am I just memorizing questions, or am I beginning to understand concepts? Nikki is 100% correct. You may be memorizing a bit, but that only helps the learning process. Little by little it all builds on top of each other. I am happy with Becker, I just wish there were more than 2 practice tests in the package.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

I was actually about to type up the same question last night. Whenever I see someone complain about the Becker material I usually think to myself that people just don't study enough. That doesn't go for everyone, but I just feel that Becker does prepare you well.

Re: CPA Exam Business Discussion

So I'll be taking BEC either Monday or Tuesday next week and I'm pretty sure I'll be ready for it. Yes, I agree with everyone in that the exam does cover a wide range of material and it can ask such a variety of questions. Still, I feel you can prepare for it. I am using Becker and can see by the multiple choice questions that come up, IT is emphasized, so are Variances, Breakeven, and Equivalent units. Everyone knows these questions come up all the time, so know them inside and out.

When it comes to IT, yes, a lot of questions seem to be overwhelming with definitions but by reading the questions and answers slowly and systematically, I feel I and everyone else should be able to answer them. If your having trouble with Variance and you are using becker, use the acronym they give you and know it. It really helped me. It would be "SAD" if you didnt remember "PURE" matched up with "DADS".

Yes, a lot of this exam is pure memorization, but for me, after addressing each topic one at a time, and understanding it, it really does help the memorization process.

Re: CPA Exam Regulation Discussion

awww man, i really wish i knew what the dummest comment ever was......

Re: CPA Exam Business Discussion

Theres just so much info to know. I am pretty good with most of it, I've taken 1 practice test so far and scored around 75. I was wondering from peoples experiences if you can tell me how much testing was done on variances. This seems to be my weakest area, I really dont know why, but I just cannot get a grasp on calculating them. Also, from your experiences, how much of the test was calculation based vs theory. Thanks everyone.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions – April/May 2009 – Wave 2

When you say that the AICPA is handing out 90+ left and right, you have to think about it this way. The majority of people that are coming to this site are people that care. People that study their butts off to get a passing grade. So of course, a good amount of people on this site are going to get 90+. Remember, the people who come to this site do not represent the entire demographic of those taking the exam. So I'm sure, 90's and all are not handed out to everyone.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions – April/May 2009 – Wave 2

79 on REG.....wow...unbelievable.....thanks jeff and everyone for the support! I came out of that exam "knowing" I failed having had to rush through the Simulations because I wasted time going back and checking answers. Still though, my fingers and toes are crossed hoping I guess to have lucked out with a passing grade. Really though, I won't be depressed if I failed. I already experienced that for the 4 days after the exam. I would though like that feeling of joy if somehow I pulled off a 75. Realistically though, I'm thinking its going to be around a 68. We'll see, I'll let ya'll know. Thanks Jeff and everyone for the support. Good luck to ya'll.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions – April/May 2009 – Wave 2

Jeff,

No interest in ever putting a chat room on your site?

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions – April/May 2009 – Wave 2

Well, I guess these are the days of reckoning.
