Clear Channel isn't going to change the programming back to Smooth Jazz. So I have a little advice for everyone who misses it: buy an HD radio, tune into 98.1HD2 and listen to all the smooth jazz you want. If it's too costly, save up and buy one. It's worth the expense: the sound quality is amazing, and best of all? No commercials!!! Get an HD radio receiver for your car, too (unless you listen to XM Sirius, where there's "Watercolors," which has even better programming). My final suggestion is to avoid doing anything that allows Clear Channel to make a profit. That might make them eventually sit up and take notice. Happy listening, folks.

Re: KKSF 103.7 - Smooth Jazz

This is probably my last comment because my husband and I have created our own solutions to the loss of accessible Smooth Jazz. My alarm clock radio and our bathroom radio had been permanently tuned to KKSF. So, (1) we bought an HD radio [e-Bay! e-Bay!] to install in our bathroom, which will be permanently tuned to 98.1's HD-2 broadcast. My alarm clock radio plays cassettes, so, (2) I bought several KKSF Samplers for AIDS Relief [e-Bay! e-Bay!] which I'm converting to tapes. This way, I can continue to wake up to the music I love in the mornings. For variety, I'm also recording from other Smooth Jazz formats. Clear Channel's greedy approach to radio has succeeded in the loss of another listener: I no longer need to listen to commercial radio for music (I listen to XM Sirius in my car). All I'm waiting for is the chance to have the last laugh when CC has to change the format on 103.7 once again from "classic rock," in the over-saturated rock music station SF Bay Area.

The big belly laugh I'm waiting for is when the FCC restructures ownership/broadcast policies and takes down goliaths like Clear Channel.

Re: KKSF 103.7 - Smooth Jazz

This may be my last comment because I've created a solution to the demise of Bay Area Smooth Jazz. First off, we bought [e-Bay! e-Bay!] an HD radio which will live in our bathroom, permanently tuned to 98.1's HD-2 "smooth jazz" broadcast. Secondly, my radio alarm clock plays cassettes; I love to wake up to smooth jazz. So I bought several KKSF Samplers for AIDS Relief [e-Bay! e-Bay!], am converting them to tapes and now waking up to the music I love. For variety, I'm also taping other smooth jazz format broadcasts and stacking them up next to the clock radio. I listen to XM Sirius in my car when I want music. The upshot? The Clear Channel programming decision that destroyed the KKSF Smooth Jazz format has succeeded in losing yet another commercial radio listener. I'm looking forward to a big belly laugh with the next change in format as you go grabbing after the $$$ that becomes more elusive with each bottom line driven decision.

The great big laugh I really want will come when the FCC is restructured to prevent goliaths like Clear Channel from even existing.

Re: KKSF 103.7 - Smooth Jazz

There's a very interesting article in the Oakland Tribune covering this situation: http://www.insidebayarea.co... (you'll have to cut and paste it, sorry). Seems Smooth Jazz was created by radio -- and Clear Channel seems hell bent on destroying it. They're changing the format on most of their smooth jazz stations and I can't help but wonder why ... is it really ALL about the bottom line?

Re: KKSF 103.7 - Smooth Jazz

I'm through. I've moved to "Lite Rock/Less Talk" because they play a small percentage of songs from the KKSF/Smooth Jazz days; but I'm fed up with silly love songs, I miss the wonderful instrumental music. I'm ready to buy an HD radio -- does anyone know of an HD radio that lets you wake up to HD2 stations?

103.7 is off my presets everywhere. The Band is annoying.

Re: KKSF 103.7 - Smooth Jazz

I'm heartbroken. KKSF has been a part of my life since its inception. I seriously relied on the smooth jazz format to get me out of bed in the morning and off to work. I certainly can't use my computer for that! What a loss for the Bay Area -- and what a stupid example of how "market research" has absolutely nothing to do with real people's lives. You are already missed.
