I read somewhere that Travis was "on call" to choreograph when other choreographers weren't available, or something like that. No idea if that's actually *true*, though...

Channel Ten is prone to editing the heck out of SYTYCD. They often compress the audition episodes so they can get through them quicker. For example, if it were originally a two hour episode in the US, they will fit two episodes into two hours instead of the one episode. And yes, the music is often different. It was even different for Brandon Bryant's audition. Last year they edited the performance shows, too -- they didn't even show Jesus and Sara's Paso Doble!

Healthy dialogue/debate is great! It's good that the arts and dance can inspire such passion... Vitriol however, isn't so good... I've just been catching up on reading comments here on previous entries, and I hope the vitriolic stuff doesn't put Ted and you and everyone else who contributes here off doing the blog... Because I am sure that it would be missed.

Definitely. Do you think that some of the choreographers are exhausted, too? I'm thinking of Tyce, in particular... He seemed so weary in Ivan's latest video for movmnt.

Yes, I definitely think that went down the wrong way. But I've heard so many other dancers say similar things, across the seasons. I think it's just dancers being optimistic/enthusiastic. Often I think that it's prompted by the interviewers behind the camera. "Do you think this routine could make history?" It reminds me of the uproar when Danny said last year "I think I could win this competition". I always thought that was prompted, an answer to a question, too.

I agree that he would have received good things that mayhave propelled him into the top 4, but I don't think it would be due to manipulation to get him into the top 4 -- he's the only dancer who never had Mia. So I was predicting that he would receive her. I was also predicting that he would be paired with Chelsie, and he was due for smooth ballroom, perhaps a romantic Waltz. The show is due for another Paso Doble, so I was also considering that.

I think the audition helped make him stick out rather than doing something generic. I know a lot of people were instant fans because of it, particularly over at TWoP. But, like you said, it seems that it turned some people off. I never knew that until yesterday when you told me. Perhaps it also alienated the younger fanbase. The audition was kind of a two-edged sword, I guess.

I agree with you about the different partner obstacle. One obstacle among many that he didn't really have any control over. The judges treatment of Jessica was blatantly unfair and ridiculous.

Perhaps he had greater votes than Mark last week due to the Pas de Deux -- it could have impressed casual voters/viewers who weren't so affected by the judges alleged favouritism. I think the connection problem and the obstacle of the judges has been there pretty much all season and that his fanbase has suffered as a result. I think that Mark had more votes because he has a more dedicated and larger fanbase, fans were scared he may hit the bottom again, and because he is awesome. :)

He obviously connected with an audience to get to where he did, though, so saying that he never connected with an audience sounds odd.

Don't you think that some of his connection problems were due to people being upset about Nigel's comments, perceived favouritism, that sort of thing? Not the sole issue behind connecting of course, but some of the issue? I'm sure I haven't read anywhere near the amount that you have, but right from the top twenty episode, I've read so many common opinions from people in various blogs, forums, news articles, who said that they would have liked Will, and voted for him, but they couldn't because when they looked at him they just got upset about Nigel.

Oh, I don't think that the backlash is the sole cause of Will's elimination, definitely not. I know a lot of people have had problems connecting with him, and some just prefer other dancers. But I do believe that the backlash has contributed to Will not having as many fans as he may have, and therefore, votes. I've lost count of the amount of comments I've read where people have stated that they would have liked Will and voted for him more, but they couldn't because when they looked at him they just got upset about Nigel.

It frustrates me that there's a lot of stuff going on out there that you can only like either Mark or Will, too! They were my two favourite male dancers, and I like both of them for different reasons, but also some similar ones: musicality, versatility, pure joy and love of dance...

I'm still sad about Will's elimination. I was really hoping Mark and him were going to be the top two guys. Which is probably selfish of me, because I reallyreallyreally wanted to see them dance a partner routine together. But the thing that makes me really sad about Will's elimination is that I think the backlash has to have been a factor (however large or small) there. And for all the alleged "pimping" (I hate that word) I just never believed that Will was The Chosen One. Nigel has said repeatedly in articles/interviews that it's a hip-hopper's year to win. Joshua and Twitch have sailed smoothly while Will (and now, I fear, Mark) took all the backlash.

I've noticed that! I know that Dial Idol has its flaws, but she's seriously significantly leading over there, too, even above all of the guys. I'd love to see a Katee or Mark win.

It was started by Will initially, his girlfriend makes all of shirts with the various slogans. One of the early ones was IV Real and the other dancers liked it, started it in support of Comfort's injury, and then it all went off from there.

Thanks Sue. I'm just sad because it seems like this season has been less and less to do with the actual dancing, and more to do with the judges. I miss the simplicity and joy of seasons one and two.

Heh, opinions vary I guess. It seemed like highly musical African/Indian movement to me. A million times more musical than Neil's gymnast floor routines.
