I also just noticed E Sak, hahahah, reaaaaaal oldschool.

Re: Sore Thumbs

I think Shoe's the one in the top bubble with his "bookie" book and the blue M hat. I was looking for Shane and Garnett and haven't spotted them yet. I like Nick's beard, hahah.

Re: Goodbye EGM

This bumble song makes me want to play a game I've never heard of.

Re: Goodbye EGM

The Watchmen cover is perhaps one of my all time favorites. I can't think of too many others, so it's kinda biased, but I really enjoyed it too.

Re: Goodbye EGM

I have too many things to say really. I love EGM, I've been a devoted follower since 1998, missing hardly an issue. I do believe I have a footlocker still with tons of the magazine that my OCD wouldn't let me part with. It's been full for years now and about two years ago I started keeping them in a basket by the pooper. Some of the greatest reading ever.

Recently, while cleaning out my room to move to my first house, I ran across the aforementioned Final Fantasy issue with the special cover. I specifically remember buying this one issue, even though I already had one, because I didn't get the super top secret extral gold plater special edition. Instead of junking it, I gave it to my little brother who loved the mag almost as much as I did. It's a shame that I KNOW he will not take great care of it.

One of the happiest moments related to 1up was after Shoe had left, he responded to a thank you/miss you message I had sent him. I remember squealing to my wife that Shoe had responded to me.

I hope good luck and best wishes for all the 1up crew and staff, I especially want to thank the 1up Yours guys, 1up FM kids, and Retronaut peeps ( and Legendary Thead toons, I almost forgot them) for giving me something great to listen to on my half hour commutes to work and back again. I will miss these as much as the magazine as they gave me something to look forward to every week.

And to Shoe and Crispin, thank you so much for providing this insight into your thoughts after you have left the biz (well, sorta). I enjoy this site quite a lot.

Re: 2008 Ex-EGM Awards: The Most Overshadowed Games of the Year

I agree with Kat, I really, really, realllly, loved Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, it was soooo much fun. One of the few games I got obsessive compulsive over and it really makes me quite sad when I think about my hard drive getting corrupted and all my little pinatas forever gone.

Re: 2008 Ex-EGM Awards: The Most Overshadowed Games of the Year

I found The World Ends With You at Best Buy in August. I'm not much of a Final Fantasy fanboy anymore, I've grown out of it, but after about an hour or so, I got hooked. It's really as good as everyone said it was, a definitely great buy.

Re: 2008 Ex-EGM Awards: The Introduction

I've grown a rather freakish fondness for John Davidson since listening to the 1up Yours podcast over the past year. I dunno what it is, but I guess it's got something to do with his accent and sense of humor. I hear you're not getting paid to do this...do you have a support Shoe and Crispin foundation??? I'll give you a dollar.

Re: Inside EGM: rules are rules

I loved Daredevil, and still do. I never quite understand why people trash it so much, it really did justice to the character of Daredevil and how he's such a tragic character.

Re: The trouble with game of the year awards

Hey Shoe, kinda off topic, but did you play Mirror's Edge? If so, are you allowed to talk about it, and if you can, what did you think??? I think the game should definitely get some kind of award, it's such a breath of fresh air that it deserves more recognition.

Re: Life after gaming journalism: The top 6 career paths

I agree with Nick, thanks for sticking around. I kinda felt that I'd never hear from Shoe again, but this blog has become one of the few things I enjoy on the internet. Do you hear that Shoe??? You're right up there with BBW porn!

Re: Sore Thumbs

Shoe...this was like a prophecy. Last night, I believe I shut off my 360 in a fit of rage of trying to find a match on Gears 2. When I started it back up about half an hour later, I noticed my Gamerscore was reset to 0. Turns out, I must have corrupted my hard drive, because everything was corrupt. Although I did recover my gamertag today, all my saves have been erased. And I was on the last stage of Mirror's Edge AND hadn't shot anyone too. Fucking bullshit.

Re: Sore Thumbs

I don't think I'd actually give Microsoft more money. I'd just tell them that I wouldn't be able to keep playing 360 without my achievements and would therefore have to move on to new endeavors. Seriously...I couldn't start from scratch again.

Re: Shit lit

I liked it. I believe reviews have become a tool just for those who look at the number/letters and buy their games based off of that. Yet I still love them, even if I know I'm not going to buy the game or not, at least I get a quick opinion on the game.

Re: Sore Thumbs

I really loved the interview, especially the last part about your favorite games, plural. I think Soul Calibur 2 is pretty good, at least better than 3 and 1, but 4's reaaaaaaaally good in my eyes. I'm not sure what it is that makes it better, but I think, decent online play has something to do with it though. 2's "Career" mode was a lot better than the tower mode though. Have you completed that all the way and did you beat Algol honorably or the "easy way"???

Thanks again for this site, it gives me something truly interesting to read every week.

Re: Sore Thumbs

Great interview man, and thanks for delivering more insights and answers to the community.

Re: From the perspective of a game publisher

I'm just putting it out there, he's got the online courage to publicly cry foul on what I feel is a trusted review site but doesn't actually name what game it was. Sounds like a flop of a game, until named otherwise.

Re: From the perspective of a game publisher

Sounds like someone's bitter about a flop of a game.

Re: From the perspective of a game publisher

I really enjoyed this letter, but feel that a bad game is still a bad game, no matter how much blood and sweat went into it. I could put all kinds of blood and sweat into a game, utterly devote all life into creating, and I guarantee it would stink, because I do not know how to. I do not feel that the journalists are the "know all" of video games (I loved Assassin's Creed), but when they give a tip or idea, it's because they have an idea of what makes a good game (it's funny, as it's almost like they play games for a living).

I have a deep appreciation for those who make truly great games, as they feed my habit, but the same way there's good music and bad music, there are good games and bad games. I don't care if Fall Out Boy spent 3 months in a loft only recording music, it's going to suck.

*edit* I wanted to apologize for not thanking Anyonymous for sharing the publishing side. I appreciate the honesty.
