Did you miss the part where the kid stopped crying?

(I am not condoning what the man did, merely pointing out he did what the mother should have done, corrected her child)

And I fully agree the mother should have removed herself and her child until she had dealt with the temper tantrum.

Maybe stores should enforce some sort of "Unruly child policy". Where the parent and child(ren) are asked to leave.

I honestly believe had the father been the one taking the kid to Wal Mart the kid wouldn't have been throwing a tantrum to begin with. In my experience kids only pull that with the parent that gives in.

lol.....if you would have read my OPINION, you would have noticed that said I do not condone what this man did. (Having said that, I do think he did what the mother should have done. Obviously this was a tantrum and anything not wrong with the kid, seeing as it did stop)
As for giving your child a spanking and going to jail for it (that kills me, all these people who think that because you smack your child it is abuse....trust me there is a HUGE difference, and anyone who has come from an abusive family knows this), it totally explains the way kids act now, and the way the talk to other people and seniors. I've seen (around) 11yr boys call a senior WOMAN a C#NT because she was trying to drive past them while they strutted down the MIDDLE of street, because sidewalks aren't cool, (but its funny when you look like someone who will give them a smack they move no problem)....but I guess you'd stick up for the kids in that regard too.

are you kidding??.....there is a difference between a child crying and a temper tantrum, obviously this was the latter as she shut up after being smacked.

I think he over reacted, BUT who can blame him. (I actually think he did what the mother should have done in the first place. CONTROLLED HER KID!!!!!!!!!....as he proved, it shut the kid up)
I like a few others on here am sick and tired of these absentee parents who let their children get away with murder, these little monsters run around, break things, scream and annoy the hell out of everyone in earshot (and we have all given the look to that parent "will you control your kid!!"). My mum would have never tolerated me having a tantrum or making a scene. I myself was a little bastard 1 TIME!!, and my mum pulled my pants and spanked my bare ass right there in the store....guess what? I NEVER PULLED ANYTHING LIKE THAT AGAIN. And how much do you people want to bet this kid won't either.
And all these people who bitch on here about this man, take a look at the kids nowadays. 8yr olds telling their parents to F$CK OFF....Are you kidding me??.....Where do these people think it starts??....I mean young people today have no respect or regard for anything, the old, themselves or each other, it's about time people started to stand up, i am surprised it has taken this long for someone to snap (and as i said this was a little overboard).
There used to be a saying it takes a village to raise a child.
