I personally don't think it is happening. I do however think there are a lot of people who complain and make outlandish claims just for the sake of being heard.

The Darkfall forums are a giant black hole of the 4chan level. You have the odd post that isn't some sort of rant but the majority of the forums is what would happen PS3 vs 360 debate. No matter who is correct they all sound like morons.

Re: 'Heroes,' 'Chuck' hit lows; 'Beauty' finishes solid

Move Chuck to another night. Losers must not only lose, but also suffer in some tangible, “meaningful” way. Thank you, persistent world!

Good old-fashioned for many people going into Darkfall is "Losers must not only lose, but also suffer in some tangible, “meaningful” way."

Welcome to a game that is going to be full of people from Great Lakes, Lake Superior, Atlantic, Origin and Europa servers in UO as well as many from Shadowbane and AC.

Re: Darkfall: wow….

Thank you for clarifying cuppy. I just wanted to know what was going through your mind. You didn't really say a lot.

I personally think the review is good. It is missing some information but its generally good.

The UI is very much like Planetside. Seeing that this game is also a First Person game they need to have the mechanic of switching between mouse pointer and First person mode.

When it comes to the rogue status that people take advantage of it's expected that this will be someones impression during a beta. Seeing that it's the PVPers from AC and UO that have been waiting for this game for 10 years that they would be the majority of people in the beta.

Questing just isn't a major part of the game design. It's not a leveling based game. All you get from quests are basic items and money. Seeing that there are no epic weps of ownage in the game due to the PVP orientation and item looting.

At the end of the day the players that like the safe feeling of games like WoW are not going to like a game like this. Players who have played niche mmos that are used to rulesets like this however will.

Re: Darkfall: wow….

The game is a little rough. It's releasing a little early. But I do not get where you can say it looks like crap. The game looks great when people don't downgrade graphics for better FPS performance.

UI is clunky. Probably the largest complaint I have seen is actually the UI. But learning it is easy and it becomes simple, still horrible but simple.

And the final question is, why does it sound unfun to you?

Re: Doubt Thou The Stars Are Fire

There was no need to roll it back. Anyways I cheered for the Goons on this one. As they suck at the game.

Re: Rituals Of The Betrayed

Hey Scott,

Thanks for writing this post. It is very much what I have been going through here in Vancouver in the past while. It's been non stop layoffs since July 2nd. But the last two weeks have taken the cake.

The day Skate 2 comes out they fire everyone from Blackbox (basically everyone). Then the following Monday, Nexon Vancouver shuts down completely. Propaganda (disney) lays off 70 people. EAC laid off a few but im sure more are coming with their loss of 600+ million.

The Vancouver section of the game industry is pretty big. But not big enough to weather this. We have a ton of really really good artists looking for gigs.

So thanks again for writing this. You are saying exactly what has been going on in my life.

As for being tired of posting these posts it is probably the reason I have not updated my personal site in a while with anything of substance.

Re: Moving…again!

Damn Cuppy that place looks awesome. Please post pics of the first party there as I can tell you with a space like that you could have some good ones.

Re: Still Have A Job? You're Doing Better Then These Guys

I am going to avoid the union debate as I do not like getting into it. These EA lay offs are nothing new for us here in Vancouver. On July 2nd Backbone Vancouver did it's second round of layoffs so from April til July 110 people lost their jobs. Then a couple weeks later Radical did their lay offs. Which was 100+ people. Then EA did a 400+ person world wide layoff so EAC (Burnaby) and Blackbox got nailed for about 70 people I believe. A couple of up and coming companies have faltered and now EA has laid off 200 people in the city. Blackbox was shut down and more are coming to the EAC campus.

And just yesterday the Vancouver branch of Nexon shut down. Nexon was not in the red and it shut down the studio completely.
All I can say to people who work in games at this moment is be prepared for anything. It took me 6 months to find something here in Vancouver.

Re: Possible new housie?

That is a sweet place. As I have done these quests a couple times I do think the crazy people of the blogosphere are going a little too nutty over his post. As a death knight I thought these quests were perfectly aligned with how the character would act. Similar to the main character in GTA4. I am a bad guy trying to be good.

I appreciate the conversation of morals vs gameplay, however I disagree with him slagging on the quest designers for these quests. I believe they are great quests, and also believe the old saying "If you don't like it turn it off".

I would love to see Bartle keep going with this subject as it has a life of its own. Even on Scott Jennings blog I believe there was something like 300 posts both agreeing and disagreeing.
