About character flaws; I'm sure I have many. I just try to learn from the past so I don't keep making the same mistakes. But the most important thing is that I take responsibility for whatever my part is when relationships have gone bad.

Well the reason I thought I'd give you a little advice is because we share a common interest and that's women. So no, I don't have a man, I have a woman and a very beautiful one at that.

Anyway my point seems to have eluded you. I was simply saying that oft times when people complain about always having bad luck with regard to finding a suitable mate they generally forget to factor themselves into the equation.

I'm with Melzie. It might be you. Why is it that those are the women you end-up with? Maybe it's something about the kind of woman you attract? Maybe the women with something going on for themselves just aren't attracted to you? I can sort of tell from your writing that you might not be attracting the brightest women around.

I think that we, Black people, portray ourselves as monolithic all of the time. I see it constantly on blogs, it's done by Black comedians, it's done by all sorts of Black people. But then we get upset when someone outside of our communities does it to us.

So the first step is for us to acknowledge that there are many different African American and Black experiences in America. And many different communities. Once we begin to do that then others will have no choice but to see us as the diverse group that we are.

Well okay. I get your point. But for a lot of people it's just trying to out-do the other guy. My system is louder than yours kind of thing. I used to work at an electronics store and most of the guys that were putting 3ooo watt systems in were just trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Rippa, the whole thing from the start has been more complicated than was reported. After reading the post over at What About Our Daughters it seems like there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that the mainstream media might not be privy to. That's why I'm withholding making a judgment at this point. So it really isn't that I don't believe Megan it's that I'm not sure if that's Megan who is really speaking.

I agree with Siditty and also because I'm not sure who the people are around Megan. She's already been used for financial gain by her own mother. So how can we be sure that the people around her now have her best interest at heart? We can't. So how do we know that her recantation is the truth. We don't.

I read the post over at What About Our Daughters. After reading that I feel even more strongly that this story is a lot more complicated than Megan recanting.

The problem is though I don't think the mainstream media will have the interest in this story to report the details beyond Megan's recantation. So we never know what happened to Megan since the trial.

I really hope someone will step in (the State or city she lives) and make sure that Megan has caregivers who aren't taking advantage of her.

I don't know what to make of this. The whole thing was weird from the beginning so who knows what's going on now. Plus isn't Megan (damn what's the politically correct term?) slow? So the question is; who is advising Megan at this point? What might they have to gain by her recantation? I'm gonna wait for more info.

Like lovebabz, I'd like to believe that the aunt was in shock and also nervous talking to the media.

But whatever the case with the aunt, the mom needs to go to jail for a very long time. And after she's been put in jail then maybe there needs to be some parenting 101 classes in Memphis and other cities. This stuff happens everywhere, unfortunately.

I'm astounded anyone could leave a 3 and a 2 year old alone.

When I read this piece it was the public assistance thing that caught my attention as well. That's so silly and out of place that I can't believe it was in the story. Okay I can believe it but it's still silly to include.

But the really amazing thing is that as I read comments from Black people on blogs about this story they sound like they could have been made by racist Whites. I think we've reached a point when a lot of Blacks actually believe we are who racist Whites (and Bill Cosby) say we are.

And Rippa to answer your question; I think illiteracy is a symptom of an educational system that many times cares more about appearances than actually teaching. You don't promoter a kid who can't read, period. You hold her back until she can read, period.

I think you missed the point of Tyra's show. It really wasn't about gay demons or homosexuality. It was about those crazy Black people and look how foolish they are. They believe in gay demons!

Honestly Tyra is trying to be the Oprah for young White women. And true to Oprah's strategy Tyra puts Black people on display for the enjoyment of her White audience to show them how backward and ignorant we are.

If Tyra wanted to do a show about religion and homosexuality why didn't she find all of those White preachers who rail against homosexuality from the pulpit and right after church they're hooking up with their boyfriends smoking meth? (They do smoke meth right? Or do they snort it?)

Anyway I think Tyra just uses Black people for ratings. I saw a show where she had a young Black woman on who thought it was cool to wear a Klan hood. So this is a pattern from Tyra.

Tavis won't suffer behind this. There is no real price to pay for anything anymore (unless you shoot yourself accidentally while in a club in N.Y.C.) so he'll keep on being Tavis and the Tavisites will keep on following him.

If he didn't know about what Wells was doing then he needs to sit down and stop trying to lead Black people. If he did know then he needs to sit down. Tavis just needs to go away. I don't trust the guy. And when people say they get a bad feeling from Tavis but can't exactly say why I think it's that they don't trust him.
