As much as I enjoy streaming content (have Netflix and Hulu accounts) I still love my Media Center and the built in DVR for this exact reason. Once I record it, it's mine. I can watch it when I want, as many times as I want and no one can take it away from me. No time windows, no limited views, nothing.

I'll continue to use streaming, particularly for older movies and those days when I'm just looking for something to kill time, but they can't take the place of a good home system. I think this is just more proof that full on streaming of everything is years and years away.

That depends on two things: Me and iTunes. I'll have it to them by tomorrow. They usually don't take too long but say it can take a week or more I believe. Been awhile since I submitted one but hopefully won't take too long.

It should also be noted that you can drag and drop media files into the MediaInfo window to get information. There's also a mouse-over option that will show details when you place your cursor over a file. This has to be turned on through the settings panel.

Just a note, while it the application will tell you that it's simply changing the extension, I've found that m2ts files are working much better for me. I won't pretend to know what the difference is but I've found that using James' settings but changing "File Extension" to "M2TS" works quite well.

Surround sound for TV isn't a requirement for me. Movies? Required. Most TV shows aren't recorded in SS anyway.

As far as picture quality, for most of what we watch online, quality isn't that bad. Not HD of course but at least as good as my cable company.

How is it an illegitimate source of content? The content is available on the websites for free at this point in time. PlayOn simply allows you to push it to your television through various devices. It's not stealing if a network is giving it away for free.

Brent, you'll be happy to know that I have a 75GB partition available on my new PC and I'll be installing Win 7 tomorrow morning in anticipation of the beta. Figure I might as well give it a shot and see how it looks now. Hopefully my hardware works this time.

I only picked up the 8GB. I wanted it mainly for apps, some music and podcasts. The 8GB is small but it works well. At this time I couldn't justify spending the extra money on the 32 though I would have liked to.

I've tried to run the setup again and there's not option for keeping it the same as the desktop. I haven't tried picking a different screen type though. Have to do that next.

I have to go with $99. Especially for a device that (please correct me if I'm wrong) is basically tied to Amazon. If I can only buy my content through them then that should subsidize most of the cost of the device.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be showing up for you. It was in iTunes the day of publishing and my Zune software as well. They both pull the feed from the site. What application are you using?

I'm using Camtasia Studio with my studio mic to make the recordings. The Live Mesh parts aren't the best but it's the easiest way to show some things.

Thanks for that. Corrected. Question though, I thought that ESPN HD was putting out (or I guess setting up to put out) 1080p. Obviously this card isn't going to catch it unless your cable company screws up and leaves it unencrypted but I thought I remember hearing they were going to be sending it out.

I never said I was that excited...I have things in the format that works for me. The point is that a lot of people who use Media Center have wanted this for a long time and as stated, there are issues but at least it's there now.

It's a step in the right direction as far as getting more things coming together with Media Center.
