I have no issues with the "activity" (although it was pretty clear the Dom
wasn't in control and hadn't really thought it through...even if he had done
before).

I do have the same concerns as you just raised. This was *not* the place for
a...well..."public hanging".

Believe me, there are some VERY edgy activities I enjoy, some I have been
forbidden to EVER do (a later post...maybe). So I love seeing things that
dance and twirl right along that sharp little edge.

But I have some medical experience and knowledge. I have been elbow deep in
blood and trauma and bad things in non-play situations (accidents on
freeways, streets, etc.) I have had to pull people away from death and hold
them until the ambulance arrives...but I was trained (and trained others)
for that.

DarlingEvil was trained and worked in hospitals. She knows far more than I
ever will about these things.

Unfortunately, others observing said scene may not...and may not have the
common sense to realize this could be above their scope. I've now spoken
with several in attendance...they all agree it was something that shouldn't
have been done at that party.

What I haven't mentioned...is this was done at a previous party and the DM
stopped it cold. This time, different DMs...who did nothing. But that was
their decision, and I'll respect that, even if I disagree.

Why hello again (we really do need to keep meeting like this...)

General rule of thumb here (experimentation is needed to get your own "best
results and preferences")

Candles made from real Beeswax are hot! I mean HOT. Real wax just holds the
heat and can make a sub scream. The more additives to a candle, the cooler
the melting temp. Most candles also just have a dye layer and seem to be
simple "white" candles with a layer of paint...so to speak. The appear to
have temperature differences (according to the screams of a blindfolded
sub), but not nearly as much as a real wax candle dyed all the way through.

Pillar vs. Taper - a long standing debate here. You can get a lot more
liquid off of a Pillar, but it's not as hot. The pool remains warm, sure,
but it's just not "fresh off the flame". But if you want to coat your sub in
wax, a Pillar candle is the way to go!

The pictures in this post are from a Taper. My sub-ject couldn't take as
much because the heat from a good taper (even a decent Taper) is higher.
This is due to a simple bit of physics...you tip the flame right into the
candle, the wax melts and wham! Volcanic pain splatters right onto your sub!
(I recorded audio from that session...I should upload a few seconds of
it...heheheh.)

Voila! My own preferences.

BTW...don't buy the Wax Play candles you see in your fav. kink
shop...they're good, but just an overpriced version of a candle you could
buy at a good craft store.

I've just been asking around casually to hear the various
reactions...and they have generally been voices of concern or "just
too far" or "not something for a general audience".

We left (like you did) shortly after the scene.

As for the "Experience" level of the person conducting the scene. If
you watched closely, there were several instances where that was
apparent. Regardless, I am pretty familiar with the Dom in question's
past and depth of knowledge...sometimes the flash is just more
impressive than the bang.

Excellent. DarlingEvil and I do the same. Even though we're in an
established, long-term relationship, we still need to know what each other
are up for. There are certain things one of us may not be ready for that the
other may want to do!

As for individuals planning a Scene for the first time? I'm amazed that some
don't ever negotiate. This seems somewhat foolish to me. I can understand if
a sub tells a Dom "My Safeword is Ketchup...I am yours, do with me what you
will".

But I do know of a few who don't even discuss that...and frankly, that
worries me a bit. Not my way. That is okay though. If I choose to Scene with
someone, there will be discussion on some level.

Period.

The three of us had and have played since without the Kink component. She is a marvelous sub, so for DE, she was a natural choice.

In the end it says a lot about DE and her bravery...heheh. Not every woman would invite her partner's ex into a sexual situation...especially one involving BDSM.

This post is actually from a blog that I took down some time ago, so this play happened many, many months ago. I agree with you Mina, it is dangerous territory and I sure as hell wouldn't go near this if there wasn't consent on all sides and (more importantly) respect.

DE is a remarkable woman. T (the ex in question) respects boundaries very well. And I am one of those people who is fiercely loyal to my partner. So, on the occasions this happens, it works - for us. But I understand and respect your reservations!

I see your point. I do, however, have some of my own fetishes (feet are not one of them...but damn they make people squirm!) In those circumstances I tend to "Top from the bottom".
