#12: A “kiss and ride” means a brief drop off of a passenger. Basically you can pause, kiss your loved one, and then go to the train. They’re at pretty much every MARTA station.

Honestly? It looks very similar to how many people who rapidly lost weight look. You can often tell one someone has lost a bunch of weight recently because they have that same haggard and gaunt look. It usually goes away eventually, usually in about a year, once they’ve reached their goal weight if they then stop dieting and switch to a healthier maintenance way of eating.

I’ve been a big fan of Professor Schickle since I was a young teen. I used to listen to the remarkable Schickele Mix on NPR. It and Car Talk were the two best things to come out of NPR. I got to see him four times live in concert over the course of almost thirty years. He would do this routine at the start where someone would come out and announce that the professor was running late and they would be cancelling the show. Then you’d hear “Wait a minute! Wait a minute!” in his distinctive voice. The first two times he then came out on the second floor balcony, threw a rope over the edge and climbed down, falling off about five feet up and sprawling across the stage. The third time, he was wheeled onto stage in a wheelchair by his soprano, Michele Eaton, dressed a nurse. She then dumped him out of the chair and he, again, went sprawling across the stage. The last time was during what would turn out to be his final tour, and when she wheeled him out onto the stage he simply stayed in the wheelchair. But he was as funny as ever.

My 7 year old son, my wife, and I went to see this. I’ve played and loved Mario games and their music ever since I got the original NES for Christmas as a kid. I tuned in for the Super Mario Brothers Super Show every day during its original run. My son likes Mario and has played Mario Odyssey, Sunshine, and Mario Kart. My wife doesn’t play video games beyond the occasional Mario Kart with us. We all thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There were a TON of references to Mario games and other Nintendo games throughout the movie. The music frequently quoted Mario and other Nintendo themes. It was quick paced, easy to watch, funny, comfortable, and didn’t try to cram in an unnecessary “issue” theme. It really felt like the people making it knew the product, knew the audience, and were fans themselves. I can easily recommend it.

I made the same comment on a very similar article a long time ago and the NASA guy who wrote it laughed and called me a “smart-ass.” That’s one of the two times someone from NASA called me that and I’ve been inexplicably proud of it ever since. The other time was when they were having that contest to name the cupola on the ISS and I suggested “The Francis Ford Cupola.”

Something important is at stake. Either Trump had incredibly sensitive documents he really shouldn’t have taken with him or they raided the home of a former president of the United States and likely candidate in the next election, searched everything including his wife’s underwear drawer, seized documents, and selectively leaked information to the press to make themselves look good. Over what is basically a dispute about document filing locations at best and overdue library books at worst. Either Trump did something that has serious implications or the FBI, DOJ, and White House did.

Having had to deal with a couple of these in the past the odds are that she either:
1. Had an angry and embarrassed boyfriend blocking people from the aisle while she was shooting
2. Screamed at someone for ruining her shot by trying to actually get something off a shelf
3. Kept bumping people with her cart and glaring at them because she was focused on recording on her phone

It’s not the 38% it’s the 62% I’m warning about. We don’t know how many of them still think (despite the now firmly established fact that it was a Clinton-backed lie) that Trump and Russia were working together. At least some of them are saying Russia wouldn’t have invaded because of Trump being Putin’s ally. We can’t get cocky about the elections.

Does Trump have a path to victory at this point? Almost certainly not. Should he meekly and quietly quit the stage? If he does, if someone who faced the kind of hamfisted blatant cheating that we saw in this last election, just let’s it happen without a struggle? Do you honestly think that in the next election the republican will have a chance of winning? “Look, even Trump gave it up and just let it happen to protect our democracy. You don’t want to be worse than HIM, do you?” If someone doesn’t hammer them right now and for the next four years on the midnight counting, the boarded up windows, the ejecting of the observers, the sketchy found ballots, etc etc etc it’s not going to be a fairer and more transparent election. It’s going to be a practiced deception - one we won’t have a hope of seeing through. Hell, if the left has shown me one thing over the last twenty years, it’s that they’ll openly hold lectures teaching their fellows how to do it! Do I think Trump is handling this as well as he could be? Not even close. Should he just go away? Not on your life.

When you see a chart like this with "Source: US Census Bureau" at the bottom, that means the source of the DATA, not necessarily the chart. This information can usually be found in "The American Community Survey", which is organized by date. Which can be found at the census dot gov website.

Englishis very easy to pidgin, however. You can remove an amazing amount of superfluous grammar from a sentence and still be understood, even by other people who only speak pidgin. The “do” that he talks about, for instance, is routinely dropped even by native speakers so “Do you have a problem?” becomes “You have a problem?” or even the one word “Problem?” where it’s just inflection replacing 4/5 of the sentence.

What’s truly strange about English, and something I’ve seen trip up an amazing number of non-native speakers, is the order of descriptors. It’s something that’s almost intuitive if you’ve learned it since childhood but I’ve been told it’s extremely confusing if you’re trying to learn as an adult. The big round red ball vs the red round big ball.
