It often happens that the job falls to the person perceived as the least worst for the job. Bazell, though not a scientist, is the closest they have. And to be sure, this Japanese disaster has significant medical implications.

They ought to go grab any of a thousand solid science journalists instead. Dennis Overbye at the Times. Timothy Ferris. There are many good ones.

I used to read Eric Alterman, and most of his best stuff came from someplace called Eschaton, so eventually I made it over here. Took me about a month before I realized one should read the comments. Maybe lurked for another six months before I posted, just about the time of Novak's meltdown over Plame on the air. Maybe 2005?
