I did cross the picket line at the first opportunity. There were no fines at the time that I crossed. I was against the strike from the very beginning. I agreed with the judge that a strike was hurtful to the community. I also felt the union was was being misleading to the community and its members... this was disappointing and contributed to my decision.

I appreciate your comments. I hope our legislature can learn from this and perhaps introduce binding arbitration into the procedure. From what I have read, police and firefighters are held to binding arbitration to settle these types of disagreements. I believe that unions and school districts can lose sight of the primary goal in these situations. I certainly felt caught in the middle. That is why I decided to follow the judge's order.

I hope that all of us will act professionally for the best interests of our students, and not the union. I just heard of a teacher at another school who is harassing teachers who crossed the picket line. That is too bad.
