Just one small note: Hayes Sensei is not technically a Hanshi. You might say kyoshi or shinshi instead.

Re: A Historical Walking Tour of Seisan Kata

Shaun - Thanks a lot for reading! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Also I think your critique is justifiable. For most of the other styles I was able to find true senior practitioners. Unfortunately for Kenpo I was not. If you know of any senior vids out there please leave a link or two here for me.

Re: Losing Motivation

Sometimes taking on another blank piece of paper (or post screen) can feel like a mountain of a task. It's good that you are considering starting your training.I think you'll find it beneficial both mentally and physically. I'll give you a few hints here, but I recommend you go check out this blog post I created a little while ago - http://www.ikigaiway.com/20...

That will lay out some steps in choosing your style and school.

In general, think of the term "martial art" as an umbrella which contains different styles like judo or karate. You'll never do "martial art" as a style, however whichever style you choose will be a martial art. I hope that makes sense.

Judo as an art tends to involve a lot of unbalancing and throwing of the opponent with minimal striking. Karate tends to rely heavily on striking with throws and takedowns mixed in.

Good luck in your hunt!

Re: Top 10 Most Influential Martial Artists of All Time

Thank you, respect was definitely a top priority when handling a topic like this.

Re: Top 10 Most Influential Martial Artists of All Time

Thanks Andrew!

Re: The Tricky Path of Martial Arts Parents

Thank you, I hope this proves useful for your parents!

Re: Walking the Beat with Okinawan Police

Thanks Noah! That's great that Art of War struck such a strong chord for you. This book will offer insight not so much into the combative aspects of the arts, but more into the mindset of the Japanese who created budo.

I'd also recommend putting 'living the martial way' on your reading list if you haven't checked that one out yet - http://astore.amazon.com/ik...

Re: Kokoro – The Heart of Things

Hi Sue.
