Even shows I find generally exceptional, like The West Wing have to make concessions to drama or budget or location. Mostly drama. I just found this to be a little egregious and maybe a little lazy.

The interpreter was kind of an idiot, too. :-)
I guess as a writer and producer myself, the little things that I see as lazy "outs" tend to bug me.

Also, it's not as much the real world setting as it is a specific part of the real world that has rules that are generally understood. I mean, I have no idea how a real organized crime family would behave in a certain situation, so I just sat back and enjoyed the Sopranos for what it was. Scandal and Homeland are sort of a hyper-realized, slightly cartoonish version of the real world. I would never nitpick them like this, because it's all I would do.

Madam Secretary, however, isn't quite as absurd, so I tend not to cut is as much slack. Does that make sense?

Thanks for reading!

Mark

Re: Madam Secretary Review: “Collateral Damage”

Yes, yes I do. But I also know that while it's a fictional drama, it's set in the real world and doing silly, obvious stuff like this takes me out of the story.

Re: There’s a New Black Canary On Arrow, What Do You Think Of Her Outfit?

Katie's GREAT in The Scribbler (a recent, little seen sci fi pic that *self-promoting plug warning* I reviewed for Paste).
