Back in the olden days when you and I first met online in the infancy of Twitter and social media as a whole, I had just graduated with a BS in Marketing and had been released upon the unsuspecting world. Within six months of my graduation, once the internet exploded, the vast majority of what I had learned was no longer useful. That has happened several times over, since then.

I cannot imagine the balls it takes to assume that "this guy I know" can do a job better than a professional who makes it their daily life. Yet we all see it every single day.

Time will tell. These people may be nailing the new aspect of promotion, but if they lack in any of the other three ps, they won't be around long enough to truly make a difference. Interesting to see how this evolves over time and see who can stay ahead of the rapidly changing curve.

Gender disparity is a big issue in many aspects, but this one is definitely more overlooked than some others. Especially once you reach the employment level where men still significantly outnumber women.

The environment my wife works is described completely. Mostly male dominant, not quite as much the boys club as it once was, but if you ask any of the women there's plenty that can still be done.

I on the other hand have the complete opposite experience, to a point. Customer Service positions, especially telephone based still tend to be female majority. In my experiences they do tend to be supervisor and most management levels also, but not exclusively. So while the mix can be different, it's still not perfect. Sometimes I have seen females in charge be TOUGHER on their female employees than they are on me or another male.
