I personally would love to hear the composer Michael Nyman speak - www.michaelnyman.com - or Sharon Farber. She is an Israeli composer who wrote a piece called "Ashkina", which was performed by the great Arabic multi-instrumentalist Omar Farouk Tekbilek - oud, ney flute, and dumbeck. She is truly building bridges through music. All of her work is so emotionally powerful and resonant...www.sharonfarber.com

Re: A Peabody Award!

WOW!!! Congratulations to everyone at SoF, it couldn't be more deserved! I love the show and never miss it!

Re: SOF Observed

I read the book. I generally enjoy Krakauer's books, and I read this one quickly - although it is not the best book for someone unfamiliar with Mormonism to read. It focuses not on the mainstream but on one small fundamentalist sect, and should not speak for the majority. Certain things I learned in the book shocked me a great deal, and i went with it to one of my Mormon friends, who was kind enough to answer my questions about what is still believed in their faith and what is antiquated and no longer accepted. At any rate, this book made a big impression on all my friends who read it and sparked lively discussion for months - I grew up in an area of Nevada with a high Mormon population.

Re: ↵ return to front page - Mr. Rogers

That picture of the little boy with Mr. Rogers is absolutely breathtaking...I love it. My 2nd favorite show growing up - in Canada, we had a similar counterpart named Fred Penner, who crawled through a log to a clearing in the forest where he played the guitar and conversed with puppet animals!

Re: SOF Observed - Seeing Listeners

I'm listening right now to "Remembering Forward." It's an amazing program...the musicians are fabulous! I so wish I could come to a live event....are you going to be in Los Angeles any time soon? I'll be first in line!

I loved hearing the story of your grandfather and the snake again - it was one of my favorite parts of the book.

Re: ↵ return to front page - Responding to the Feedback on "Inside Mormon Faith"

I just heard about the blog too. I'm so excited to discover it. I thought the program was amazing - especially the beginning when Krista was saying that Mormonism is very rarely discussed these days, especially with Mitt Romney's Presidential run, without a lot of political discussion and touching on all the "hot button" issues like polygamy, etc. I grew up in Nevada where I had many Mormon friends and saw what their faith was all about on a daily basis, but not everyone gets to be exposed to the Mormon faith and educated about it in this way, so I thought the program was brilliant. Krista as ever had amazing questions and feedback. I just love this show so much!
